Tiling Finished in Master Bath
We finally got the tiling done on the half-walls on either side of the marble sink in the master bathroom.

looks great. i love the patina on the old marble...you recycled it from somewhere else in the house, right? have you decided what you are going to use to hide the plumbing, if anything?

It matches the marble on another sink that came with the house, but this one we shelled out the $$$ for at Olde Good Things...Haven't decided about a skirt yet. What do you think would work well there?

which olde good things did you go to? i've been meaning to get back to their warehouse-y place in pennsylvania to look for some garden urns.
on an older post for your other bathroom, i suggested some sort of towel bar to span the width. an antique looking one, kind of like those old english towel warmers (but with only one or two bars) as opposed to a modern type towel bar. i added a link in "url" to the waterworks website. it shows something similar to what i'm talking about. let me know if you can't read the link...
you could keep regular towels on it (and it would be handy if the kids got in there as they could easily reach them). then when you have company, it would look really nice with maybe some antique linen hand towels.
what kind of mirror are you putting up, the one in the photo? did you happen to see that great round silver mirror in the last issue of brooklyn magazine? it's modern, but i think it might work here. i like the dark wood trim of the one in the photo too. it's a nice contrast to the marble. are there shelves to the left and right? i really like the design of the space...having separate areas for husband's grooming supplies (shaver & deoderant) and wife's grooming supplies (insert endless list here!) without going the two sink route is an excellent compromise that i think works better in an older home.

Great idea, sba. Will discuss with Mrs. B! We're going to get a huge mirror--width of the entire marble sink--to mount on the wall.

then you should definitely check out the mirror that was featured in brooklyn magazine (the one where they did a modern take on furnishings in a victorian brownstone). it's made by an artisan in brooklyn, if i remember correctly. it was pretty big-they had it over their mantle, and the round shape could work well for you seeing as you have an outlet that you won't want to block. it might even look cool if you found one of those old gesso(?) frames--silver leaf and "antique" it (so it goes with the nickel fixures you've got), then get a mirror made to fit...
we're thinking of re-doing our master bath, if you haven't guessed already!

up early, can't sleep...
for the sink skirt, i think maybe something less gathered than a traditional sink skirt. maybe hung like a shower curtain? something like this:

you could get a thinner rod and smaller rings so it doesn't look like a shower, but the same concept. and then you could easily slide it over for access to what's behind.
