Vanity in Master Bath

master sink

We think we're going to need to make some kind of front for the vintage marble sink in the master bath. Do you agree?

Comments

Definitely. I've seen similar freestanding sinks with towel bars on the side...what about a long one on the front?

Yes, by all means. That sink was designed to have some type of front or vanity.

You'd also gain some extra storage space for toiletries.

No, skirting would lose the "antique" feel of the piece. I like the towel bar idea.

i think stick to how it was originally intended with a cabinet of some sort- a nice wood front would add warmth to the room anyway along with more storage.

We have sinks like that in private washing areas off the bedrooms. They both have a piece of marble across the front about 8 or 9 inches high. Somewhere along the line somebody rigged them so curtains can be hung behind the marble to hide the plumbing and provide storage. With the right curtain fabric they look very nice.

i've been thinking about a nice old wood, b/c i agree with the poster that it would add warmth...we need to find some random doors i guess...any ideas? (besides the wonderful, but expensive old goode things)

Could you retro fit one of those old marble top commodes? here's a link to a photo of what I am talking about-(http://www.souhantq.com/com/com-1122.html)

I saw one for sale at the Housing Works shop in Manhattan (missing its marble top) for $100. Something like that would give you the warmth of the wood, and some storage space. You could just glue the top drawer shut and have it be decorative since the sink bowl will be in the way, or you could have a cabinet maker create one of those tilt out little storage spaces (like they do for under sink kitchen cabinets that hold sponges, etc.) Just a thought...

i mentioned about the wood in the earlier post- there's a photo of a bathroom around the last turn of the century in I think it's "new york interiors" with the byron photos, i can't remember exactly but anyway, it is what I want my bathroom to be all white tile, marble and the wood cabinet- if i can find it i'll scan it and send. please repost a photo of what you decide

checked out the link, http://www.souhantq.com/com/com-1122.html and i liked it, but i think something even more simple b/c the fixtures are polished nickel and may clash with something like that...any ideas people have are appreciated!

saw a sink just like this one in a house on the PBS show FIND! it did not have any type of skirting.

part of the reason it looks so naked is that we installed it a little bit higher than standard b/c we're both tall and hate leaning over low sinks, so i think it does need something...

Check page 143 of June 2005 Elle Decor. I saw something nice for this there.
