Kitchen Cabinets In Place
The cabinet frames (Ikea, Hallarum) are installed in both the owner (shown) and rental kitchens. Now we're trying to get the marble cut for the counters.

Looks like it will be nice and light in that kitchen!

who did your cabinets?

we're installing ikea cabinets in our rental now. we chose the Askerum doors (we liked that they're solid wood) & the butcher block counter top. i know it's not meant for lengevity, but I'm nervous about it all falling apart- especially the insides of the drawers. Oh well! You can't beat the price and they look pretty good. Are you doing a backsplash?

If we have enough of the marble, we'll do a backsplash

Yikes, you are in for trouble if you plan on using marble in your rental. It is very soft and porous. Don't beleive your stone guy when he says, the stains are part of it's character! Marble can also be etched by many common household things like a lemon slice left on over night or some cleaning supllies. Even cooking oil! Don't even ask me about the glass of red wine I spilled the first week after my installation. Yes I had many coats of sealer applied to prevent staining. Thats why people use granite because it's harder.

you seem to lose the corner space in this configuration

Yup. But wasn't much we could do. If we can we will cut out the side of one of the adjoining cabinets and extend the shelf into the corner so we can at least stash rarely used things back there so it's not a total loss. But given the restrctions of off-the-shelf Ikea sizes, there wasn't much else we could do.

Great blog!
For what it's worth (and maybe it's worthless at this point), you may want to consider a couple more electical outlets on that countertop -- looks like there is only one.
