More Mantel Stripping

fireplace

The stripping of the marble fireplaces continues apace. We ran the wires you see in this fireplace (third floor tv room) to accommodate the flat screen that will live over the mantel.

I'm curious to hear your thoughts on the flat screen over fp setup. it seems that you've run the wires inside the fp, does that mean you won't be using it? I'm trying to figure out how to make my setup work but am reluctant to run wires on the inside. another problem I may also have is how to build out the front of the fp with plywood so the flatscreen can be mounted.

We hadn't considered the fact that it would be difficult to mount the flat screen. Hmmmm. But yes this is a non-working fireplace.

It's interesting to shoehorn a 21st lifestyle into a 19th century house. We've tried to maintain a semblence of the original, but it's difficult.

Most of us would have an entertainment center (or at least a TV) where the mantel would be in any room. The flat screen above the mantel strikes me as a good idea. It thought of doing this in my back parlor, (our 'living room'), which originally served as a formal dining room. The mantel in this room is gone. It was probably the grandest mantel in the house. The woman we bought the house from used the room as her bedroom, and may have removed it, or it could have been removed prior to her ownership.

In any case, I have thought about putting a flat screen TV behind some kind of mantel-like built-in, so it can be covered when not in use.
