Upstate New York was growing by leaps and bounds in the mid-19th century, as its wealth of historic houses from that era attests. We rounded up five charming examples from the time period.

The styles include Greek Revival, Gothic and Italianate. Not a few have eye-popping exteriors, and all but one have plenty of historic interior detail to boot. Their conditions range widely, from move in ready to fixer upper.

All are located in the Hudson Valley, in the towns of Copake, Amenia, Kingston, Ulster Park and Hudson.

Their prices are diverse, starting at $119,000 and moving on up to $929,000.

Which one would you choose?

First up, in Copake, we find a Greek Revival with lots of intact original detail plus updated kitchen and baths. There are two parlors with all the trimmings — including two mantels, original floors and moldings — four bedrooms and 3.5 baths. There’s also a wood stove, two ponds, a two-car garage and a screened porch. The highest price property on our list, it also includes a 1,500-square-foot heated barn with electricity, another small born for horses, an outhouse, wishing well, and bluestone path and patio.

Another Greek Revival home, this one in Amenia close to the last Metro North stop in Wassaic, has a noteworthy exterior. The property is a fixer-upper requiring extensive renovation, with next to no original details remaining on the interior, according to the listing. The parcel consists of 39 acres, and there are three bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.

Over in Kingston sits this 1870s Italianate with a slightly Gothic feel. The four-bedroom, 2.5 house has faux-painted slate mantels, crown moldings, pocket doors, built-ins, a deck and a yard.

Our most affordable pick is a farmhouse in Ulster Park. Another Italianate with a Gothic-inflected exterior, the pleasingly symmetrical home is being sold “as is.” There is a porch (missing one support), and inside there is an original staircase, mantels and other original details.

Last up is an elaborate Gothic cottage straight out of Andrew Jackson Downing’s classic bestseller “The Architecture of Country Houses.” The paint and decor are eccentric but can be changed. There are gables, eaves, bay windows, arched windows, a rear tower, black marble fireplaces, a classic bathroom with a claw foot tub, and a garage on a half acre of land.
