This house at 6718 Ridge Boulevard jumped out at us from the Brownstoner Marketplace listings. In particular, that dining room, with original wooden built-ins and beams, knocked our socks off. The exterior of the Bay Ridge pad is made of limestone and sports a rounded bay-window shape. The only real drawback, potentially, is the fact that the house only has three floors of living space, one of which is partially below grade. Given that the house next door just sold for $730,000 in August, though, the asking price on this one of $749,000 seems perfectly realistic, especially for a buyer who likes the idea of a hot tub in the back yard.

  1. As the Realtor for this property, I was very excited to see this beautiful home featured as House Of The Day. It is rare to find such a beautifully and tastefully restored limestone in an equally wonderful area. Bay Ridge has a lot to offer in the way of convenience (to Manhattan, Long Island, AND yes…New Jersey), lots of dining options, quality education (public and private)…and most importantly a safe community for families with various likes, interests, and lifestyles. The true beauty and character of the home was captured by Photographer Alex Kotlik (akotlik.com). We invite you to come view this property…you won’t be disappointed!
    Best,

  2. Hey, “Lioness”, please stay out of Bensonhurst. As a matter of fact, I hope Brownstoner NEVER has a HOTD in Bensonhurst, Marine Park, Sheepshead Bay or any other of the neighborhoods where I spent much of my childhood. (Park Slope, where I had great times with friends and family is such a long way from the diverse place it was 10-20 years ago). We don’t need some beardo stuck in the 1800’s to put in his/her two pennies about how hard-working Brooklynites live in 2010. I’ve always liked 19th century architecture but the 19th century attitudes have gotta go.
“Sure there is the “Jersey Shore”/Staten Island element (ie Italians,Russians, Hispanics, etc.), but there are also some lovely, very well-educated and industrious people that we are fortunate to have as neighbors and community members.”
What fucking century are you living in??? People like you are the reason that whenever I’m in Park Slope or other just fell off the turnip truck neighborhoods I make SURE my Brooklyn accent comes out EXTRA strong. That way I can distinguish myself and other real New Yorkers from YOU. May Brooklyn survive your ethnic cleansing…

  3. When are we going to get over the fact that nabes change? I lived in NYC my whole life and I can tell you that I’ve seen, every single neighborhood change, except for maybe the Upper East Side and Brooklyn Heights.

Remember Alphabet City or what is now referred to as the LES?
Or look at Bensonhurst. Used to be Little Italy but now it is Chinatown.

The old people move and new people come in. Get over it all ready.

  4. i KNOW it’s like they discovered caroll gardens in the late 90s when it was “real”. um okay, then like bowl of dicks said.. so what happened? oh that’s right. YOU! now you infest another neighborhood and do the same thing? and pretend that isnt the case? please.. now they’ve discovered how “real” bay ridge is! ugh. so barfy. i didnt move to park slope for realness. i moved here cuz it’s safe, close to work, and my dog is happy. i would never move to a neighborhood and fakely pretend to enjoy the native culture, the diversity, and realness and then do everything in my mind to subvert and change all of that. phonies.

  5. “one of the great things about Bay Ridge is one of the things we used to love about Carroll Gardens in the late 90’s early 00’s — it has an authentic feel, with a lot of original Brooklynites of varying ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Sure there is the “Jersey Shore”/Staten Island element, but there are also some lovely, very well-educated and industrious people that we are fortunate to have as neighbors and community members”

The operative phrase here is “used to love about”. You are part of the changing tide that Bay Ridge is beginning to experience – people moving down from affluent bstone nabes, bringing your snotty attitudes with you (like hello, Jerz Shore/SI people can’t be well-educated, lovely, or industrious?) IMO you are part of the problem.

Now, the question is, when will prices normalize in Brooklyn?!

when you people stop hyping it up and stop moving here probably. im from jersey originally too, and the commute from where i lived into manhattan was 10 minutes. but you people wouldnt want to really gentrify those areas cuz you wont get enough street cred with the hillbillies on your facebook back home.
