The sale of the Jay Street Arts Building, located at 29-53 Jay Street and 201 Water Street, hit public records for a ticket of $25 million. It’s likely these new owners were the ones applying for a 126-unit residential conversion with the LPC and DOB this past October. The LPC ended up denying a proposal to alter masonry openings, replace windows, install a storefront infill, a canopy, and construct a rooftop addition here, calling the proposal “barely recognizable” and saying that “the rooftop addition is inappropriate as it… would call for the removal of the historic skylights.” (See photos of those skylights here.) Karl Fischer was the architect listed for those plans. The DOB also disapproved plans for a residential conversion, and the owners have not filed any new plans since.
