The time has come to strike out on your own. Where can you find a one-bedroom for less than $1,600 a month in Brooklyn?

That’s quite a bit less than the typical rent in Brooklyn these days. The median rent in Brooklyn clocks in at $2,826 a month, and the median one-bedroom goes for $2,700 a month, according to Douglas Elliman’s July report.

We’ve rounded up five options in central and outer Brooklyn. The most expensive of the units is $1,599 a month, while the most affordable is $1,400.

They can be found in Crown Heights, Flatbush, East Flatbush, Bed Stuy and the slightly farther afield Bath Beach.

Which one would you choose?

First up, in Flatbush, is a unit in a large brick complex called Flatbush Gardens. There are hardwood floors, original doors, an updated kitchen, and laundry in the basement.
