Laughing Devil Comedy Club Is Pulled Off the Market and Will Remain Open

Long Island City’s Laughing Devil Comedy Club is staying in the funny business. The Daily News reports that after the owner decided to put the club on the market, the strongest offer from buyers was to turn the space into a bar. And according to the Daily News, “Owner Steve Hofstetter decided to buy out another business partner for majority control, rather than selling the property off.” However, he plans to change the direction and the aesthetics of the popular comedy club. Laughing Devil will begin screening classic movies Wednesday nights and Saturday and Sunday afternoons, running films like Spaceballs, the Big Lebowski, and Wet Hot American Summer. They also plan to build a separate bar area for patrons who’d like to drink without seeing performances. In September, they are moving the talent showcase The Big Thing to Thursday nights, and on Friday nights they’ll debut a new show called The Comedy Alternative, featuring young, promising comics. Exciting stuff!
