The Cliffs at LIC, a 30,000 square foot rec center for rock climbing, will open next month, reports the LIC Post. Once open, it’ll be the largest indoor rock climbing venue in the country, where as many as 500 climbers will be able to climb at once. Some walls will go up as high as 60 feet. The space, a former warehouse at 11-11 44th Drive, will also include a gym for cardio and weights and a retail store selling climbing gear. The LIC Post reports that the owner had to push back the opening after some trouble with the Department of Buildings, including a Stop Work Order. Now that it’s been taken care of, he expects to open The Cliffs in about three weeks. Annual memberships will cost $1,045 and include a monthly guest pass, gym access and climbing classes.
