Over the past decade, Long Island City has become a hub for great art and great food. And Resobox — a Japanese cultural center, gallery, creative people’s hangout and cafe famous for genmai and kombu tea — is right at home a few steps north of Queensborough Plaza. Until Aug. 30, Resobox is presenting a themed exhibition, Explore L.I.C. (Long Island City) Life, Time & History, featuring 30 local artists displaying everything from photography to abstract paintings to landscapes that depict the stories, impressions and realities of the day. One collaborator, Rafael Octavio Gonzalez, likes to stretch visual limitations with his panoramas (see above). Other participants, such as Gabino Abraham Castelán, is collaborating to create a mural on one of the gallery’s walls.
