Closing Bell: A Proposal for an Ice Skating Rink at Astoria Pool

City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr. wants an ice skating rink over Astoria Pool during the colder months, according to the News. He asked the Parks Department to consider utilizing the space in the wintertime much like the ice skating rink at McCarren Park Pool in Brooklyn. He also suggested a new concession for the sprinkler area of the pool. Parks officials received Vallone’s letter of request and are currently reviewing it. There’s another proposal to transform the long-abandoned diving section of the park into an amphitheater and performance space. There are no official plans to move ahead with either the performance space or the rink.
