We wanted to tell you about the newest – actually, the first ever – literary journal in Queens, called Newtown Literary, and it’s based right here in the borough. 26 Queens-based writers have contributed to the inaugural issue, which is available in both print ($10) and electronic ($8) editions. In putting together this journal, the journal editors reviewed 130 submissions and eventually settled on 45 of those, and these selections will span the first two issues.

More about the first issue:

Issue #1’s contributors range from seasoned pro’s with publishing credits to their names to writers who are making their literary debut in the journal. Newtown Literary Alliance, Inc., the non-profit organization that publishes the journal, has as its mission to support and promote the work of Queens writers, especially those who are just emerging on the scene.

There will be a launch party, too! This event will take place on Friday, December 14, 2012, at 8pm at Waltz-Astoria (23-14 Ditmars Boulevard – GMAP). Writers making their debut in the journal will be reading their pieces, plus journals will be available for sale.
