we want a clothesline pole/ladder
anyone had one installed in their backyard? we're in a brownstone, and the neighbors all have them, but not us. I've been leaving messages with ironworks places--is this the way to go? anyone know a cheap place to recommend?

Don't have a place to recommend but when I was a kid, my father and I put one up in our backyard fairly easily. We bought several sections of 2" threaded galvanized pipe, dug a hole about three feet deep, stuck the pipe in and poured cement around it. AFter the cement hardened, we added on additonal sections of pipe until we got to the height we needed. On the top section, we had drilled a hole and inserted an eyebolt to attach the clothesline.

I recently got a few bids because I thought I could talk my landlord into installing one. It was going to cost over $1000 to build something we could use on the third floor.
I actually think $1000-1500 isn't outrageous given the kind of structural integrity you need (it is just a wee bit less simple than it looks, and you don't want it falling over ...) but I wasn't willing to spend that and neither was my landlord.

that's a thought. though they're in poured cement, so a big dig would be involved. thanks for the idea (and the hammock idea...)
