ESCO GAS PRICES

I'm thinking about changing ESCOs. What are the current charges for the ESCOs that provide gas to 1-3 family homes in Brooklyn.

WANTED FINS FOR STEAM PIPE

I haven't see these in years, but would like to know if they are still available. I remember seeing "fins" that hinged and clamped over a steam pipe to provide additional heat. If I remember correctly they were about 6" square. Is anyone aware of a source for such an item?

DIRECT VENT GAS FIREPLACE

Has anyone installed a direct vent gas fireplace? If so who did you buy from, have intall and were you satisfied? For my installation I need a positive venting one which uses a fan since I must vent under the floor to an outside wall. All advice appreciated.

That bill for a pre winter month sounds about right. For my 2900sf Victorian it was $140. My total for the year will run from $2300 - $2900 based on past usage. That includes cooking and hot water. Over the years we've reduced the usage by about a third by insulating, weather stripping and caulking.

Anyway to prevent these recurring posts from appearing??? I assume that the poster in China doesn't know what's appropriate to post.

Would someone please teach the poster English spelling and grammer. Aside from the inappropriate posting on this site the speeling and grammer make the legitimacy of the firm questionalable. They don't even take credit cards or Paypal. Could they be in Nigeria?

Master Plumber - Thanks for your latest tips and for the great videos from last winter. Your frequent advice to forum questions is appreciated.

I was disappointed to learn that Gateway doesn't service Victorian Flatbush. Please consider expanding your service area.

Sounds like a great deal - except that it's in Detroit. I've heard of people buying similiar houses on Ebay for a couple of dollars who are then presented with huge tax arrears bills.

Just what we all need, Philippine real estate. I'd love to find a Philippine turn of the century brownstone with all details intact, maybe with Philippine mahogany woodwork.

I used Mann products about 10 years ago, and was completly satisfied. I think I saw their ad in today's Daily News and of course the price is more than it was back then. I think I saw the current price is $895 installed.

Blackstoner: I was there and didn't see anything wrong with the people in the photo. The event was at 8am and 2 of those participating biked to work afterwards.

Polemicist: Yes if you consider anyone over 40 old, most of them were old. From what I observed they were no fatter than the average Brooklynite. The vast majority of Community Board members are employed and since all Community Board meetings take place during evening hours, working people are fully able to participate.

The fence height limit is 6'. Your local district Dept. of Sanitation can probably answer your question about trash enclosures, if there are any requirements.

You can pick up the ducting at Lowes or Home Depot and do it yourself. It's quite simple if the hole is there and the dryer is nearby.

The East 24th Street house is in South Midwood, not Ditmas Park. Why can't the folks at Corcoran get their neighborhood straight if they are selling in Victorian Flatbush? We have distinct neighborhoods here in Flatbush with active neighborhood associations.

I'm sure Barbara Corcoran could call the Flatbush Development Corp., request a map of the neighborhoods and tuter her brokers and salespersons.

I bought all my kitchen appliances from Drimmers about 4 years ago because they gave the best prices. I had absolutly no problems with Drimmers and found them most cooperative when I misplaced the service contract a few months ago. The only problems with my high end appliance occurred within the past year and were covered by the contract.

Sitmd - Venting under the floor is strongly advised against unless the unit has positive venting, which means venting is fan driven. Did yours have positive venting?

Don't scrap the boiler yet. If it's from the 90's it should have a lot of life left. After the winter you should think it over and consider how long it would take to recover the initial outlay for a new system.

Electric and heating costs vary according to your own use as well the the house. A past owner's bills are not a true indication of cost. A new setback thermostat, compact fluorescent bulbs, a lower hot water temperature, and some caulking will result in reduced bills. Good luck.

It's real easy if you've got the cash to begin with and can stand to take a loss. Why wait until you are in college? Prices may go up by then. Buy now.

Sometimes moisture can interfere with the ignitor. Try drying it with a fan or blow dryer before calling a plumber.

Let me guess, the neighborhood around it has burned down to an urban wild and the interior has had ever bit of wiring, plumbing, fixtures, etc. stolen for scrap by crackheads.

Since you're advertising on a Brooklyn blog I presume that delivery is included in the $25,000 price :-)

I also have had very bad experience with Drimmers. In particular they caused damage upon delivering applicances and after agreeing to pay for repairs won't return any calls.

Better to go with a large seller like PC Richards who worries about their reputation.

Arches: That sloshing/percolating sound is water trapped in a back-pitched pipe or radiator. Repitch and shim/support to solve.

Ringo: We do a complete Heating System Evaluation. It’s very good and not cheap. What’s even more expensive though, is a cruddy heating system.

Nybk01: I use Burnham products all the time. The Alpine is a good boiler which was developed to correct some problems with Burnham’s older and similar Freedom boiler. There is a recent thread on this forum about this boiler. I'd say check it out. But, go for it.

Zuffy: Problems in steam heating systems often present reveal themselves in remote parts of the piping. You’d need to review the entire system.

Yaakovdoe: We’re working on it, but trying to keep costs down. Our prices were rising due to down time from traveling throughout the day. THANK YOU for calling.
