As far as naming the nabes, there was an excellent history - with newspaper clippings for source material - on Icky Brooklyn blog a few weeks ago http://ickyinbrooklyn.livejournal.com/14115.html
Greenwood Heights is not new, and the boundaries were ever fluid and changing depending on the developing areas
Back to the monstrosity we call the "cruise ship" on our street (and unfortunately we must share our street with the cruise ship), it is horrid looking, the walls already have graffiti and the bottom windows are busted out. I know that they originally said they needed to get 1 million a floor for the place, my how times have changed.

If you are talking about the large building that took what seemed like too long a time to complete at about 300 16th st. ....
stand in front of that building and look at it. I swear it looks crooked (besides looking shabby and poorly contsructed). I know the street is not level, and perhaps it is an illusion, but the lines are not parallel and it just gives the place an unsettling feeling.
I read somewhere recently that most of the people buying these new condos only plan on living in them or in the area for 3 or 4 years.
Too bad, since many of us have plans to be here our entire lives and we have to live with the ugly monstrosities they leave behind.

Another great name in the condo scene is "The Shang-ri-la", on 6th ave., and to connect that to this thread, they had their own "fire sale" just this week. Wonder if anyone bit?
And a ditto on the windows for the Sweet Sixteen, I walk my dogs by there all the time and can't imagine why anyone would want to own a place designed like that. It's not as if the view is a serene lake front or something that would be more suitable to have as a full on view 24-7.

hmm let's see, where do I start? As someone who lives in one of the houses you can see in the photo of the "Cruise Ship Condo", I just don't get the attraction of these places.
Don't get me wrong, I love my house in my neighborhood, but I am one of the poor, working class that makes up most of the neighborhood and am not looking for classy and expensive amenities to make me happy.
But for those who can afford the price - why? Small, lousy location overlooking dog poop park (not to mention the copious amounts of human poop to be found in those lovely "pocket parks"). Graffiti and broken windows, cars torched and/or broken into, drug deals gone wrong, these can't be the things that someone with that kind of money is looking for.
I will paste a photo of the statue of liberty on my living room window (I'll pass on the photos of the cranes of Bayonne and the skyscrapers of Jersey City) and be happy with a much less expensive view in my cozy much less expensive house in the neighborhood I call home (and will most likely call home until the day I die).

i use them for 3-4 houses per year. I always save money and they are great to work with.

I used them about 3 years ago, and everything was fine. I got a good price on the flooring, even including delivery.
