In my opinion most of the posts here are out of touch with what's going on in Bushwick right now. I've only lived here for a year, but have had a better experience in Bushwick than I had in Williamsburg or in Jackson Heights, and just signed to live here for another year. There are plenty of beautiful new apartments available, new options for going out and eating opening up all the time, and a rapidly growing population of young professionals and hipsters living in the area. In terms of safety, I have had no issues whatsoever, and find most of the neighbors to be friendly and laid back. Granted I am a 200 pound male, so people are less likely to give me a hard time, but my roommates are skinny hipsters who come in at all hours of the night, and our girlfriends live in or else visit the area regularly without any incidents. If you carry yourself properly, know what you're doing, and have your wits about you, Bushwick will be a safe and exciting place to live.

Don't forget to mention how bad the L train sucks and how crowded it is.

i lived in bushwick for 5 years until 18months ago. fairly close to the east williamsburg side and i'm sure its not the same everwhere. but as a single female i never felt unsafe. came home at all hours walking from teh subway etc.
you have to go to the place yourself at night and walk around. everyone has different standards of what feels safe so its no use relying on other people's opinions

I'm a female and when i checked out the area two years ago, I did feel a little wary, but two years later, you'll be amazed how quickly things have changed! Yes, more young professionals are making the move out here. i feel safe and the neighbors are all really nice and has a very family oriented feel.

I think it is just the stigma that bushwick has carried for so many years and it's hard to get rid of. However, in time I think Bushwick will be just as hip as its sister, williamsburg. After all...it sooo close to the city! :)
