Inspector Unable to Gain Access?
i just filed a compliant about the house that i am living in but when i check on the DOB, it says that the INSPECTOR UNABLE TO GAIN ACCESS. Just wondering what is the DOB going to do if they keep getting unable to gain access. Will they cancel the complaint just because they tried few times and get no access?

No Fire Escape or Sprinkler?
The house I am living is a 3-story house, and I found out that the whole house has no fire escape and sprinkler system. Regarding the safety of the tenants, I want to know if it's illegal in this situation b/c there are 10 people living on the 3rd floor, 7 people living on the 2nd floor. Also, i would like to know if it's illegal for the 3rd floor to have 10 peoples living inside (isn't that too much?) even though the 2nd and 3rd floor have been changed into 2 SRO each?
thanks

Record of Change in C of O?
Hi, I am wondering whether DOB will have any record for the permit of conversion in my house? I suspect that the 2nd story floor i am living in is being illegally converted into 2 SROs. Can i find out the permit in the DOB website ? If there is no permit or record in the DOB, does that mean the 2nd story-floor is being illegally converted ?
please help, thank you
Holes in the Ceiling!
I just found out that there are 2 big holes in the ceiling (see photo), but they are being covered by some wood as you can see in the pictures. I want to know is that ok with the New York City construction law? Please help. Thank you.
2 means of egress?
hi everyone
would anyone tell me what can be the '2 means of egress'? Does the access to the roof count as one egress?
b/c i am living in a 3 story-house,and the 2nd and 3rd floors are being converted into 2 SROs in each floor, and i found out that the whole 3 story-house does not even have a fire escape.
please help, thank you for reading

its not a big deal , right ?
in case of fire, those who is living on the 3rd floor should jump off the window?

that straight steel ladder is probably the height of 2 story house.
just wonder what does it use for?

thank you for all the posts
i will call 311 for more information. And for justice,if that the house is being illegally converted or has no fire escape, i hope that the DOB will work on it. the reason i posted this is for everyone who is living in the house, not for any ruckus.
BTW, there is a straight steel ladder standing in the far end of the back yard, which has fuse into a concrete-like stand, but it is way more far away from the rear windows of the house(impossible for the tenants to reach from the rear windows).
And i think that might be the old steel ladder from the original fire escape.(??why is that ladder being in there, god knows???)
well, i guess that is nothing to do but call 311 for more infos.

the broken ceiling has rat, spider beetles coming out the broken wood. b/c i am pretty sure that the spider beetles and rat should not be in the apartment since the fact that i just moved in this apartment, and i did not see any spider beetle in my previous apartment.

thank you for everyone's comments, they are very helpful.thank you all.
here is my problem.
1. The 3 story house has no fire escapes, no sprinkles, i am afraid of the any fire emergency if it happened unluckily.
2. i just check on the above link PROPERTYSHARK.COM, and i found out the house is a S2 class house, since the first floor is for business, and the website say that the house only has 2 RES UNITS. In fact, the house has 4 familys living on the 2nd and 3rd floors, the 2nd and 3rd floors have been converted into 4 SROs, 2 SROs per floor, is that illegal?
3.regarding the question 2, i am pretty concerning about the permit of the conversion on the 2nd and 3rd floors. because i found out from propertyshark which says that the house only has 2 RES UNITS, but that is 4 familys living on the 2nd and 3rd floors now. Should i call 311 to make sure that whether the house is being converted on the law authentication?

The straight steel ladder is for clothes lines. they attach to the ladder with pulleys and connect to the house with another pulley so you can hang your clothes out to dry.

I own the bottom apt in a 3 family coop. We have a very ugly fire escape -- but it is necessary, because if there were a fire in our floors and the main stairwell, people upstairs could not get out! One rather unsatisfactory alternative until this is corrected would be a metal ladder with chain rather than rigid sides. There's a pair of large hooks at the top to hang over the windowsil. A poor substitute but better than death.

My favorite comment on prepositions at the end of a sentence: That, sir, is an insult up with which I will not put.

DIBS, if you click on his handle, you can see several of his previous posts which gives a nice recap of his life in this home. Best I can tell, he does pay rent, is not looking for a free ride, but is moving and looking to make sure the horrible conditions don't continue.
3 story house, illegal tenancy issues right and left, including up to 11 people shoved onto one floor. Water damage, tremendous holes in ceilings that let rats and bugs in. And most important in my opinion, with dozens of people living here and no dry wall between floors in spots making for a huge fire hazard, there is no fire escape AND no sprinkler system.
So really people? He's "THAT tenant"? And how would you feel about it if half a dozen children were killed there at Christmas time due to a space heater or christmas tree fire because no one could get out, it was fast moving and there were no sprinklers?
