Boiler Repair Company
Can anyone recommend a good boiler repair company?
Our boiler shuts off and when we relight the pilot it makes a loud boom.

I don't know why you cannot complain to your boss. He has to provide a safe workplace for you and last time I checked it was illegal to smoke in any office building or office. Tell him how it affects you and will interferes with your job performance.
Here is NYS Clean Indoor Air Act

Yes we used Heimer - I had a great experience with them and since we were doing a gut reno they were pretty on point with their estimates. Good luck

I had estimates on my inspection report and they went into detail about why it should be repaired etc.

I have a 5X6 full bath I used a pedestal sink and a oval toilet. I also used larger tiles on the floor to give it a more open feel. I gutted it out and did most of the work myself. Cost was about $2500.

We purchased our bamboo fence from this place

which gave us a better price than the prices listed on their website. They do not install but they can recommend installers for you.

Sometimes just tightening the screws on the hinges raises the door up slightly

I have recessed lighting on a dimmer switch which we installed about 2 years ago and they work fine. I purchased the 3" ones at Cash and Carry Electrical on Atlantic for a little less than $50 each. They also carried a nice assortment of trims for them.

We did this not too long ago. Took us one day to get the plaster off then we used a chemical to clean off what we could of the brick. I did not repoint because I like the "worn" look of it. It did take a few coats of polyurethane to even it out. I don't know how to post pictures otherwise I would show you a before and after. Good luck

There is Dykes Lumber and that flooring place on 3rd Ave in the 30's (I think it is owned/run by Orthodox Jews)

Sorry -- realized what the conflict of interest was that our inspector referred to.
Not ballparking estimates, BUT recommending someone to actually do whatever the work required.

Do you have Rick Perry's contact info?

If you want an exact match but can't find one, American Restoration Tile in Arkansas will make the tile for you. Reasonable prices, no minimum.

actually I liked vinca's artistic solution. It could add a nice element to the bathroom.

Stacey:
Thanks, so much. I would be interested in looking at your tile. I plan on going to a bunch of tile places in Brooklyn trying to match it but will check yours out first. I would need to see it in person (and bring a sample of my current tile) to see if it's a match. You can email me at visit dot susan at gmail dot com.

Anonymous complaints to 311 do work. I called once, though I think it was directly to the Dept. of Health. A letter was mailed to the boss, and that was that.

I have thought about suggesting getting a smoke filter, or some sort of mechanism to reduce the smoke, but I work for people who don't like to spend $$.
Also, for all those who said to look for another job, I have started. I figure if the head boss can't get his wife to go outside & smoke, then who am I.

WTF happened to Brooklyn?

I was once in this situation. I complained, and then walked out and then collected unemployment. When they said they didn't fire me, that I quit, I said, do you want me to report you to the Dept. of health?
The answer was no, and I collected for the maximum number of months at the time--it's a lot longer now. However, you have to decide if you can live on $450 (or whatever the maximum is) a week.
