Hell, I live on the first floor of a walk up and have my own back yard and I still occasionally climb the stairs to chill on the roof -- and we don't even have a deck!

If the unit is in the rear, the F/G train proximity might not be too bad. It'd definitely need some aesthetic reno work -- those cabinets/closets/shelves are pretty yuck -- though you'd be surprised what some DIY effort could do with this space pretty cheaply. Not sure if the price is right though ... If it was $300k I'd buy it right now. :)

We live down the block from Sorrel and we really really wanted to like the place. Having given them three tries (two dinners, one brunch), we're not going back. The food was good, but not good enough (for us) to justify the price, especially since the portions are small. If I'm going to drop more than $50 for dinner-for-two in the neighborhood, I'll usually head to Beast (a little more casual and loud, which suits us, and the food is still fantastic) or head over to Flatbush Farm.
For brunch, I'd rather hit Beast, Melt or Cheryl's (when I don't feel like waiting in line at Tom's).
If we went out for $50+ dinners once a week or more, I could see going to Sorrel on a regular basis for variety's sake, but that isn't in the budget.

I think just tearing the freeway down and shifting it out closer to the water would be enough. The shadow it casts on Third Ave. sucks. Maybe if they narrowed it significantly to support a greenway that could work -- but I'd settle for getting rid of it...

Brownstoner:
Here's the javascript to do this:
// begin
var guests = document.getElementsByClassName('guest');
for(var g in guests) {
guests[g].style.display = 'none';
}
// end
Make a link with an onclick event that does that and you get a "hide guest comments" button.

@Polemisicist,
I made a bookmarklet available from my personal blog. You can drag the link on my blog to your browser toolbar and click it to hide all guest comments on any Brownstoner page.

I only tested with Firefox so YMMV.

Hey, at least if you live in it, you don't have to look at it...

I live on this block of St. Marks and almost considered blogging / complaining about this same issue, but assumed it would be temporary...
