Greenpoint riverfront property mystery
There's an odd property that stretches between the end of Greenpoint Ave. and Kent street along the east river. There's a prefab looking building, grass and trees. It seemed strange to have this large, green area fenced off in the middle of all these warehouses, and I imagined whatever it actually was, that maybe it was a secret CIA safehouse;)
Does anyone have any background on this place?

What's a "Hollywood" Kitchen?
Just saw this term in a rental listing. What would this mean?
Loud reno next door
So the house next to mine is being gutted and I've been told the resto will take 3-4 months. Even though there's nothing going on in front, I'm being woken up every morning with the floor of my bedrooms shaking to thumps and bangs.
I don't want to cause any drama, but it sucks.
Any precedent for getting projects like this to start a little later or maybe work on certain quieter things early in the morning? I was thinking what I would do if I was the owner next door...

I don't know. Just living in New York, breathing this air, drinking this water, riding the subway, eating the dirty water dogs. That's got to take years off our lives as well. As long as they're not bothering you, let smokers be. Next you'll be limiting trans-fats or something... ;p

This is my back yard, and I have no problem saying I'd rather it not re-open if at all possible. I don't know how bad it is for property values, but anyone who says it's good has to be some sort of stakeholder. I don't see it.

Park Slope, South Slope... at least they don't call your neighborhood BoCoCa.
At any rate, this generic style restaurant looks like a non-starter, but we shall see...

That's HI-larious
I think the economic crisis is freaking everybody out. This board has been so *weird* over the last few days! ;)

I love the people and the atmosphere, but I have to agree it's a but overrated. I've eaten there five times and twice the food came out badly prepared. Now, granted, both times I did not see Sohui in the kitchen.
Anyone ever seen Dave and Xander in the same room? I thought not...
Hope there's an update on this soon.

So life will go back to how it was when the Key Foods was open. I don't see this as a particularly relevant story.

Turns out it's going to be turned into a park with construction supposedly starting next year.

Lisa, unfortunately I don't have one. You can sort of see it if you type in 2 Kent St into google maps and look at the satellite and street views. I'll try to take one next time I'm back in the old neighborhood.

Osaka has gone way down hill. When I first moved to the hood 5 years ago it was the go-to sushi place. No longer. I've heard that the sushi chef that made the place great left and now runs Ki on Smith. I would say Ki, Hibino and Cube 63 are all superior at this point, but I haven't been to Osaka in a couple years now.

I feel like it's trendy to hate on Grimaldi's. I've been eating there for years and I think it's still a solid pie (Tip: ask for it well done). I was there on a friday night a couple weeks ago with a party of 10. The wait was 35 minutes but we got out of there with 5 pies and 3 caraffe's of wine for $20 apiece! Delicious and a bargain.
Sure it's no DiFara, but that place takes me 45 minutes on the train + another 45 minutes to get a pie + another 45 minutes back. Sorry, but for something cheap in the hood it's not too shabby.
Yeah, it's not unlike Bedford where there are now 3 asian joints in a row on one block. I never got my hair cut at Kendel's so it won't make a big practical difference to me. Just another flashy neon sign, really. That this neighborhood is going further down this road is nothing surprising. Yawn.

Who cares about the name? Silly Chowhounds. Great restaurant that has always been worth the wait. Nice staff, good specials, great for veggies and meat eaters alike. Surprisingly one of the better steaks I've had in South Brooklyn. Great wine list too.
Thanks for the answers. Hopefully it wouldn't look like Sam's hollywood kitchen; )

Thanks Montrose. I was pretty much thinking along the same lines. So far they are using the bathroom inside the place, but I don't know what will happen when they rip that out.
They usually start after 8. That's fine for me most days. Not so much for my roomate who works late nights.

"Boar's Head is a deli meat supplier.
When a deli sells excusively Boar's Head products, they get to advertise the Boar's Head logo in their window."
They have started retail chains. Maybe they've decided that there's too much confusion in the re-branding and are calling it something else...

The negative comments on this thread don't seem particularly genuine to me, but I suppose anyone could register and bump a rating up or down if they wanted to. But anyhow...
Convivium is one of the standouts of the Park Slope scene. The atmosphere is unparallelled, the food generally delicious and the prices proportionate to the quality of the experience. The service can sometimes be a little too aloof when they are extra busy, but otherwise it's an excellent place.
I was just there last week with an out of town guest and she thought it was magical.

Delicious food, but defintely overpriced. The wine selection is typically diverse and features some interesting options.

Fast delivery. Decent food, though they have gone noticeably downhill since expansion.
Lets also mention that the bike lane that used to end at Fulton has also been extended to Atlantic... for what it's worth.

First restaurant I went to when I moved here. Just a little hole in the wall that welcomed us in from the bitter cold wind. They've gotten bigger, expanded and morphed into other projects... but even now when I go the food is just as good and the ambiance somehow still genuine.

I love the last minute of the Masstransitscope video where there's the guy brownbagging it while talking to the reporter on the filthy tagged-up train.
