Bed Stuy Inquiry

My husband and I are considering a house near the corner of Macon and Stuvesant (east of Stuy). Any insight from those who live in the area regarding this block would be appreciated... Vibe, safety, community, etc...

We'd be moving from Boerum Hill, which we love. But we're anxious to buy and have found a home that has many original details, but also some room to design (read: also many non-original details that we want to re-think). We've spent a lot of time exploring the area on the weekends, but really think the best way to find out what it feels like to actually live somewhere is to ask those who do. We appreciate your comments...

As a native New Orleanian, I have to say that haphazard is part of the charm...

I live up Stuyvesant from here, and I have to say that I like the walk to the A train a lot, even if for me it is long (12-15min, I'm closer to the J)

That neighborhood is really nice, I'm the one who said "pathologically friendly," and it's true.

To the OP:

My fiancée and I have recently signed a contract to purchase a home in Stuyvesant Heights. The deciding factors for us were all the things previously mentioned by Dave and guest. We spent a lot of time in the neighborhood, and really liked the general vibe. Sure there are some drawbacks when it comes to eating options and such. However, overall the value can't be beat.

We are really looking forward to closing (barring any unforeseen hiccups along the way), and properly meeting our new neighbors...maybe you!

LOL.... from BoerummHill!!!! When i'm tired of the restaurants here I go to Boerum Hill!!! Jolie, Downtown Atlantic, Stan's, and the various Japanese and Mexican places.

I also go there for my higher end shopping needs..Smith St and Court St...Fish Tales and Los Paisanos Meats are just 2 stops away on the A train and never have to go to Manhattan or any further into Brooklyn anymore

Are you buying the yellow painted house on the south side or the one across the street with the small brick wall in the front??

Hi snice, and everyone else, I realise that this post is over a year old, But my wife and I are in an incredibly similiar position . ie:
" We'd be moving from Boerum Hill, which we love. But we're anxious to buy and have found a home that has many original details "
And was wondering if you could offer some advice from your move and everything? How do you like the neighborhood ? any favorite or least favorite blocks or area's ?
Thanks so much!
Gavin
