i actually think these look pretty nice, although i'd say that's technically bed-stuy not clinton hill (not that i have a problem with BS, i live there). i kind of dig this part of the neighborhood, i run through here all the time and this place looks alright from the outside. easy walk to ft. greene, and several train options, although they are way overpriced for a 1 bed imo.

I looooooooove Black Iris! Come here lots, it's way better than nearby Zaytoon's. The falafel are delicious, and they give you unlimited pita for your hummus! (Great hummus). The falafel sandwich is ginormous and only about $5. Definite value. Probs my favorite cheapo meal on the DeKalb strip.
i'm headin to the bell house! weezer cover band and mexican food, i don't think i could ask for more...

i'm at the y several times a week and have been watching the progress on this one...gotta say, i'm not a fan. it's just ugly, on the outside at least. maybe the interiors will blow my mind, but i doubt it.
same goes for 179 monroe! that place is bizarre looking. but there are definitely people living there.

broadwayron, this one is not smaller than the union sq. store, that is the tiniest one i've ever seen! actually, my roomie works there and apparently it is the biggest tj's on the east coast.
tybur, there is no wine shop. against some ridiculous nyc law? have no idea which. again, this comes from the roommate.

My building on Tompkins near the M-W stop might be an interesting representation of the newcomers to Bed Stuy - pretty much exclusively under-30, mostly white, with some african americans and asians, and one hispanic family. Oh, and one young lady of pakistani descent, which i happen to know because she's my roommate, heh. There are some buildings along my stretch of Myrtle that seem to be basically all young white kids. So Wine Lover, they are certainly out there.
My grandpa lived all over brooklyn in the 20s and 30s and he and his family lived in bed stuy for a time, he went to high school here. he remembers the neighborhood as mostly white, but hey, he's 85, so his memory might not be so great :)

i love olea! haven't been for brunch yet, i really need to get around to it.
i live in this area of bed-stuy, at tompkins and myrtle. do i wish there were a few more restaurants in the area? sure. actually, they don't even need to be all that close, but if they delivered that would be nice! currently, none of the yummier clinton hill/ft. greene/willyb establishments do, so the best i can get is greasy chinese and pizza from the shitty places around (although to be fair, some are tastier than others).
anyway, agreed with whoever said that people should realize what they are getting into when moving to this part of the neighborhood. people live here because it's cheap. it's cheap because there isn't a whole lot of stuff around. i am very excited about this duane reade, but you know, that's also why the subway is down the block. so you can GET to the neighborhoods that have more bars and amenities, and where the rents are higher. if i was living in the mynt and paying $1700/month i would feel ripped off, sure. this part of bed-stuy is just not worth that much rent! but my apt. is a very spacious and beautiful 3 bed and i am happy with what i pay. i get frustrated sometimes, but i can hop on my bike, or do grocery shopping in the city on my way home. if this place becomes 'the next hipster enclave' (shudder), i won't be able to afford it! you gotta make some concessions.

i've been here a couple times since it opened and i love it! very reasonably priced produce and bread and the like. need to try the sushi.
