We have had a fairly simple ADT system for several years and found it to be okay.

There are two ways to go as I understand it, wither cheap up front and expensive monthly or money upfront an cheap monthly. Either way I strongly recommend :

Getting a good alarm installer is very important, you need to make sure they have experience in the industry, can they offer police and fire response, also when you're looking for a company it would benefit you to know what accreditations or certificates they hold for example NSI and UKAS. If you want an ADT alarm system then be sure they are an ADT authorised Dealer, there will be a monitoring cost so make sure you know about that before you sign a contract.
