Greta - I don't know about the area behind the school but the park formerly known as JJ Byrne is now known as Washington Park - for almost a year.

You mean the newly named Washington Park?

And the pay(off) is good too.

I would not recommend Metro. They did a big job for me - repointing the brick facade and brownstoning the stoop of my four floor home. 1 year later the step chipped but after calling repeatedly I keep getting the 'yeah, yeah, we'll fix it next week' line for the last 5 months!
Clearly they do not stand behind their work.

'I've seen them in person, and I still think they look like ass."
"But I don't think you need to insult people who have different taste than you by calling them ignorant."

Because there are so many other ways of insulting them...

Fairway is good for some things but as far as fruit and veg go they are inconsistent - lots of rotten stuff around, and not cheaper. Whole Foods has them beat by a mile.

To many of us, Whole Foods not building in Brooklyn is a loss but certainly not a surprise for this location. First of all, if you comparison shop you would see that their prices across the board are most often cheaper than the local markets like Key Food and Met and they offer fresher non polystyrene wrapped fruit and vegetables both organic and conventional as well as great meat and fish. Their own brand is fairly cheap and of great quality. Peanut butter? you can pick up Jif in most corner delis if you like that sort of thing.

Read again. It says 'Harry Potter- loving college students'. In fact, many colleges have Quidditch teams.

And WE get a fare increase because the MTA is in the pocket of the billionaire politicians and developers.

Celebrate Brooklyn! is part of a Performing Arts Festival put on by BRIC Arts. While many of the concerts are free or close to it ($3) they do have a' Friends' section for members(donors). This helps them to finance the concerts and allows the 'friends' a reception and better seats.

'so a few people can ride bikes' Making the city more bike friendly encourages more people to ride. You have to start by giving people safer ways to navigate the city.

I have worked with this one guy Rafique, hes been a contractor in the area for over 20 years and I've never had a problem with him. The quality of the work is great and the prices are of the lowest. His cell number is 718-791-1179

Hi JCBstoner,
good luck on selling your shelving system. I own a beautiful system in Walnut, similar to the one in your living room. If your system for sale was walnut, instead of what looks to be maple, I would consider it. I think you should be able to sell just under $10,000 in this difficult environment, so don't sell out. I do not frequent these so called "hip" brooklyn websites and am saddened at the self-consciously populist viciousness of the attacks on you. They are obviously people who do most of their shopping at flea markets and have not been out pricing high quality built in cabinets that can run over $1,100 per linear foot. Atlas is the modernist alternative to built ins with regard to quality and the price reflects it. Ironically, you are supporting the local Brooklyn economy when you buy Atlas. You save in the long run because you can take them with you if you move.
