39" Kraftmaid Birch Base cabinet
I added a Dishwasher and replaced this cabinet. It is is excellent condition. This would cost around $500 to have made from Kraftmaid. The color is Honeyspice Birch.
If anyone can use this asking for $50.

Water Leak in Cellar. Who to call?
We have water leaking into our cellar along a side wall. It does not really seem to correlate with rain. Front of the house along the base of the brick in the cellar water is leaking from between the mortar joints. Enough that it has created holes. There is no way this not coming from the neighbor. They have a very decrepit chimney that could be an issue. But every time I look or try to ask about the leak we never get any answers.
Who can I call about this? Brownstoner's have any suggestions? Is this a plumber, roofer or someone else?
We are looking for an inspection to find the leak and determine who needs to fix it.
Thanks

When we had John Digamba Stripping do our banister and doors the refinishing was included in the price. They did a wonderful job and never did it come up that it was separate. Of course the initial price included the finishing.

we have used justblinds.com for two places and loved the 2" wooden blinds. great prices too.

you could also buy a wine fridge thermometer. They are fairly inexpensive and keep a record of highs and lows. That could tell you if part of your basement would work as a wine cellar.

I had Adirondack and Allstate drop me. TSC has insured us and has been fine. Ridiculous policies

Try Larry at J&L Landscaping (718) 438-3199. They have great prices and do great work. We have had a Cherry Tree planted, and a bluestone patio done. I know they deliver soil and sand too.

Amin is as everyone said mediocre at best and usually below that. We regularly order from Star of India on 5th ave. They are very nice deliver fast and have tasty food.
About what was the quote for replacing the water main? I wanted to do this as well because my house pipes are bigger than my main feed from street.

I would say yes. That is a very doable rate for a nice 1 bedroom.

I run a custom A/V business and I can say that DirecTV has a significantly better HD picture than TW. I think in the city it it split too much. I am always seeing color-blocking on TW HD picture.
They also have far superior HD-DVR's Every issues I have ever had is with TW's hd-dvr. they are terrible.
I also have DirecTV at my house and love it (NFL ticket helps). Yes during bad storms I have lost a picture, but I do not have to deal with TW's constant outages or bad customer service.
If your DirecTV picture is going out when there is not a storm, you may have an issue with the aiming of your satellite.

As a landlord I rented my apts on Craigslist. I use www.citicredit.net They allow the owners to run credit and background checks. Worked fine for me.

They have something that looks like it is out of a Chaplin movie. Like and old phone receiver. They can listen on your water feed and tell pretty quickly by the noise or lack therof if the leak is from your water system.
311 actually worked very fast. DEP dropped by in about 2 hours and then came back to check the neighbor's house for the same thing.
Posted by: remyching at June 10, 2008 6:17 PM in response to Water Leak in Cellar. Who to call?
Thanks for info. Called 311, DEP came that day and said it was not our pipes. Ends up it was the neighbors hose in the front yard on 24-7. Amazing that could soak her yard and go into our basement. Park Slope, water goes down the slope...
As soon as she turned off the hose the water stopped leaking an hour later. Explains why we would get more when it rained. Ground was saturated.

Thanks so much for the video. We just bought a place in
park slope and have never been able to get such a clear explanation. Looking forward to the other 2 vids.

Contact Bullfrog Builders for your basement. I have done work with them recently and recommended them to friends as well. All of us have been more than satisfied.

As several other people mentioned, many companies have dropped out of coastal areas (including Allstate & State Farm). The companies are waiting for NY to be hit with a huge storm. I am an independent insurance agent located in Brooklyn. We have many clients within 1 mile of the coastline and have several companies willing to insure coastal regions (including Bay Ridge, DUMBO, and even beachfront in the Hamptons). Insurers are willing to do business in these areas- you just need to know which ones! Feel free to contact me...even if it's just for advice.

Do you still have any of the radiators? I am looking for a steam radiator that is about 16" wide and 25" high and 4 1/2" deep. Pls email me at melissaattar@yahoo.com.
Thanks.

This is UNBELIEVABLE! I decided to try to insure my house with TSC b/c the quote was so low. So, I call them back to start my application and they tell me that they can't insure my house b/c it's less than 1000 ft from the water! Why would you give me a quote if you can't insure the place?!?!

Bobjohn, my tenants left a brand new, barely-been-used Magic Chef 30 bottle wine cooler. It is in my garage and sells for between $220-$300. I would like to sell it for $100 or another suggested price. If you would like to take it please email me at : salross@verizon.net

thanks for the suggestions. BTW, do I need to worry about humidity sipping though the cork in basement?
Posted by: bobjohn at June 2, 2009 10:33 AM in response to Storing Wine in Brownstone
Yes, if you don't want to use a fridge, you should use a humidity gauge as well. Corks can mold, rot and mildew.
Posted by: Misty B at June 2, 2009 12:04 PM in response to Storing Wine in Brownstone
Robert Parker suggests that 70 degrees and below (without fluctuations as previously mentioned - intra day and seasonal) should be fine for several years. Avoid light, movement and also vibrations. Should be fine for 0-2 years, likely more. Several articles on the web for natural cellars.
Humidity is generally an issue for the corks - remedy is to lay bottles on the side to keep the corks moist.
Rule of thumb on temp controlled storage is $2 per bottle, but some retailers (Sherry Lehmann) will store up to 1 year. Best to buy a wine unit in my view.

I have a wine fridge but I must admit that I have always wanted to turn a portion of the cellar into a "Cave de vin"
I aleady have the cobwebs.

We had J&L Landscaping on Caton Ave do a bluestone patio in out backyard. They had to hammer out a lot of concrete and remove it then they did it right pitching away from house with sand below. We loved the quality of their work.
