I need to get 4 interior doors made most likely in maple. Any one knows the approximate cost for this?

What ever you do, do not dip. Hand stripping is the way to go. Dipping spells trouble down the road.

I don't think $20 to $25 per linear ft. is right, it's less than that and probably close to $15.oo shop around, replacing is not cheaper ,it's alot more.

we had him come back and finish the work that we put off when we had him here the first time because of our budget.
we have no issues with him, job well done again and we would
definitley use him again if the need comes up.

30K?wow,some people have the nerve to show their insanity.
I had joe salem do some serious stripping for me and I mean
many layers of paint through out my brownstone and the price was
not even in the same ball park. shop around.

solid is the way to go. Plywood is cheaper and faster but not as durable. once they are kicked and scuffed , you will go right through the veneer and refinishing won't fix it.
even if you choose a cheaper solid wood like poplar, you're still better off than plywood.good luck.

I advise you to hire a gc. Give it to one company and let them handle it all. It can be very stressfull trying to deal with all these guys of different trades. I've used moch contracting (917-642-0555}.

I found Wood Zone's work to be unsatisfactory. They took FOREVER, very slow, and uncommunicative. The staining wasn't very rich.

Hey Heatherie,
We were also looking into Allegeny doors and was wondering how yours worked out. Are they nice?

I concur with the recommendations of Joe Salem at Woodzone. Reasonably priced. Good work. He stripped doors and window casings for us, and finished/restored newels.

South slope woodworkers on 3rd ave are very good. Ask for a guy named Dean.

Wasn't paying attention. I received the unfinished doors, and was happy with the quality. I can''t vouch for their finishing, but I bet it would be good quality. Packaged and shipped well.
The doors needed a little bit of sanding before staining, but I was very happy with the quality of the doors. Very smooth and solid, and seem well made. I went the cheaper route and bought the poplar (which also tends to be a domestic wood), but stained it a richer color. Since all our wood was heart-pine stained a mahogany color, it seemed like an historically accurate way to go. We just had to seal/condition the wood first to make sure the stain didn't go on too blotchy.
The 7' by 32" door ran about $210 unhung.

Thanks for the do-it-yourself reminder putnamdenizen. I didn't think to mention that, while I got quotes to refinish the woodwork after it was stripped, what I ended up doing was hiring a couple of energetic young guys to sand, then I sealed the woodwork myself for a grand total of about $1000. That includes the repairs made by my carpenter and materials.

Thanks for all of the comments folks. Needless to say, I'm going to get several additional quotes for the work. And the DIY option on the sanding and application of a finish is becoming increasing attractive.

I had mine done by joe salem. He only does hand stripping, which is the better way of doing it. Cost will vary depending on if they're painted or stained. His # is 718-755-6527.
