looking for office space
We are two published, full-time authors looking for the first time for office space outside our home. We'd like something in Park Slope or Prospect Heights. A cubicle won't do -- we want privacy, natural light and enough space for desks, bookshelves and phones. Some charm would be great. A little outdoor space may be too much to hope for. We want to settle in by June 1st. Anyone have advice on how to find what we want?

Jeez, you're awfully picky for "writers." How did those french guys ever manage in those coldwater garrets? I guess it was the "charm" that saw them through.

Since when aren't writers supposed to be picky? That's your fantasy of a writer.
For the most part, workspace is going for about $2 per square foot per month and up. More if you're are talking about a central location, light, etc.

hi, when I lived in Park Slope I rented a great art studio in a very quiet building on 8th Avenue and 18th Street. They have a sign posted on the front of the building with the phone # to inquire. I rented two different studio spaces over the course of 4-5 years and there was never a time I heard anyone else in the building! It was well kept, had clean bathrooms (shared, but cleaned at least once/week) and when I happened to run into someone else on my floor they were always very pleasant and it seemed like a variety of businesses, both art/writing/etc. were renting there. It was very affordable at the time (I left the place 3 years ago, but I paid 450/mo for a large space, with a nice window and a huge storage closet. I never had any issues whatsoever and only left the place because I moved away. I still long for having that little private room of my own! good luck to you both!

We're still investigating what space like this should cost, so I'm not sure yet what our budget will be. Anybody know how office space prices compare to apartment prices? Depends on how nice the space is, too, and how convenient to us (we live on President Street and 8th Avenue). My contact information is beckybob58@yahoo.com.
