Noise at night near Carroll Park
I recently moved to President St. across from Carroll Park, and am extremely disappointed at the amount of noise at night.
It sounds like construction related truck activity, but I'm not sure what it is. It seems to occur at around midnight, and then around 4:00AM although I can't be sure about it as I do manage to sleep part of the night. Is this related to the 340 Court construction? Does anyone know what this is, and what, if anything, I can do?

Based on some window watching last night, I'm thinking that its garbage trucks. At least garbage trucks are part of it. I'll post updates as I learn more.

It isn't just the bus traffic, there is a lot of garbage truck traffic on Smith that can be quite loud late at night.
I am suffering through it on President between Smith and Court, and still looking to see if there are other causes.
See the Noise at night near Carroll Park forum entries for more info.

I live on Union in PS also and don't find it too loud at all. My bedroom is in the front of the house and i've never had a problem sleeping because of noise. Buses don't run that often and never noticed much truck traffic.

What is it with the noisiness of the buses? The one's that stop in front of my house and accross the street are quite noisy. Plus they make the metal parts of my windows vibrate, more so than even the garbage trucks. Any solutions for noise and pollution from buses in PlaNYC?

I live on Union St in CG (Hoyt/Smith) and the bus sucks. Have never gotten used to the noise and exhaust. Don't move or buy there, if that is what you are asking about. All the other blocks nearby are very quiet; Union St is the outlier.

Wow, I'm loking to buy in this immediate area of Union Street and thought that the only annoyance was going to be the school, but that is much more pleasant than garbage trucks and busses that are 24/7...how about the neighbors closer to Bond street, because as i was coming down union, there is a pretty quick shift in neighborhood - is this the border of CG & Gowanus? Can anyone please offer up some opinions on the block...Much appreciated!

Can anyone comment on the garbage truck noise specifically on President street btw 5th and 6th Ave? I am looking to move into a brownstone but the bedroom is in the front and I am very concerned about noise. Clearly a quiet street otherwise... Does anyone know what time collection takes place?
Thank you!

Just to clarify, my wife and I have both lived in Brooklyn for many years. We have had apartments that ranged from extremely quiet, to fairly noisy, but nothing as bad as this. Maybe tonight I'll take a walk and see if I can determine exactly what is going on.
Thanks for the comments.
