Rear Cellar Door
Hello! I am looking to replace my rusted iron hatch door from the cellar to the backyard. Does anyone know someone who is good for installing Bilco doors or does anyone have any other possible options besides Bilco?

Check out Nyack. The commute might not be the best, but the town has everything you're looking for.

It's too funny to read Democrats and Republicans square off against each other, as if there's any difference. Neither of these crime families, I mean, political parties, is innocent in the debacle, nor are all the idiots, of all income levels, who lived beyond their means for the past decade.

I'm impressed that a gated community supported a junkie den.

Got it yesterday...saving it to pay income tax. I used my stimulus check to pay the property tax. What goes around comes around.

The Republicans got what they deserved last night, no doubt about that. Mc Cain ran like he didn't want to win, and when you look at the mess the next president will inherit, I can understand why. I thought Obama's speech was wonderful and I couldn't help but feel proud that our country has reached this point. That said, I just hope that he will live up to half the hype that everyone has pumped out. I truly hope that he will be a great president, but reality has a way of crashing on the party.

Hmmmm...maybe all those recent immigrants in Bensonhurst, from Russia, China and Eastern Europe are donating heavily to McCain because of their first hand experience with socialism.

Bxgrl, there's no way I would defend Robertson or Falwell either. Truth be told, I was hoping for an election contest between Clinton and Giuliani just so I wouldn't have to listen to any religious nuttiness. Please don't use Billy Graham's words with Nixon to prove any points...Rev Wright's buddy Louis Farrakhan has said much worse, more recently.

Bxgrl...while Obama might not have sat in Rev Wright's church for all his life, he was there for a good twenty years. I don't think McCain has ever attended services in any of the churches that you mention.

I can't imagine the use of this clause anyway. Didn't all those disgruntled leftists leave the country after Bush got reelected in 2004? That's what they said they were going to do.

The pies are great, but I have them as a very rare treat. If they were a couple of bucks cheaper, I'd be eating them every other day. Now, it's maybe every other week for a splurge.
Family Tree Service did a good job on trimming our oak. They're in Staten Island.

I really wish people who comment on economics had even a cursory understanding of the field. I feel like I've been listening to plumbers pontificate on heart surgery lately.

ironballs- we are not going "socialist", our President is not a socialist, and as far as "Do you really think the best talent will work for peanuts and lemonade?"- they should because all that best talent was too stupid to prevent this mess. In fact, they helped create it.
As someone in one of those big firms said, claiming that money is needed to keep top talent is bs. where are they going to go in this economic market? They'll be thrilled to keep the job they have.

> "Killing performance compensation is a dagger thrust to the heart of capitalism."
Richly rewarding people for total failure is a much bigger dagger. If those "best and brightest' want to walk, let them.

Ok Snarkslope,
Then what's the point of the bailout in the first place?
Why spend billions on corporate bailouts and then stack the deck against those companies you're trying to save so they're at a major disadvantage against their competitors because they can't pay bonuses.
This isn't about Democrat versus Republican. It's just plan stupid.

bxgrl,
Plenty of bankers have left TARP banks and taken other jobs.
High level financiers with years of experience can still find work even in this economy. Mid level and lower level folks might have trouble, but the super smart, connected guys can always find work.

An excellent question.

Dear byndcivilization,
Please do not point to plumbers in this tone.
MP and eman very respected here. Besides they understand point of creating segregated entity (i.e. LLC) instead of working as self-employed and put their potential plumbing liability onto their household.

Second for Nyack, but the commute really is hideous (I used to live there, trust me).

I also used to live in Nyack too. Nice vibe, a little small and the commute hell-ish. I don't think the schools are as good in Nyack as they are in Montclair/Verona/Glen Ridge.
I think we're Montclair bound as well. I keep saying it and it hasn't happened yet though.
The schools are the tipping point for us. We like a lot of the public options here in NYC but the K cut off date in NJ is same day as my boys birthday and the suburbs allow you to hold back before starting K.

I know finances and schools are more important factors but I can't help it -- a very important question for me would be which town is most social, tightknit and easy to make new friends. The suburbs are known for being lonely. To think of moving out of the city when all our friends live in Brooklyn or Manhattan, none in the suburbs, it's depressing. But just to file it away possibly for the future, I'd be curious to know if there are towns in NY or CT (not NJ or LI) where people like their neighbors and made friends pretty quickly after moving there.
