Recommendation Phils Air
We recently had two mini-split aircontioners installed by Phils Air Conditioning and Heating. They did an amazing job and were extremely helpful with some tricky issues we had - even coming back two months later to change a pipe layout which didn't work with our new deck build.
Phil was very reasonably priced and his team was really a pleasure to work with.
The system they installed also did a wonderful job through August with far superior cooling with similar impact on our monthly electricity bill than previous window units.
For the interested we have two yard compressors with internal units on parlor and first (one above parlor) floor. Pipework was well disguised where visible by the finish guys who work with Phil.

I have to say its been unbelievably useful to have all the word of mouth recommendations for tradesmen available on this website.....
In keeping with the spirit I'd like to recommend Windows We Are for the installation of our landmark approved windows. They handled the permit approval process for a reasonable expediting fee and the installation was very clean and efficient - needless to say the windows look great.

we actually have one of these lying around in the backyard which we have no use for. If you'd be interested in taking a look post an email and I'll provide details......

To those interested in the floors unfortunately I have no idea where this photo came from - its not even my house (or my photo)...
On the a/c the compressors are in the yard (and unbelievably quiet) with indoor units on parlor and the floor above. It was the only system we considered as its suits the open-plan layout we have. Given the performance I would definitely consider having a further unit on the top floor one day.

We recently had kolbe sash replacement kits installed in a landmark district (altough we didn't have original windows still in place).
We haven't lost any wood/glass area - the kits are installed behind the existing frames/brickmould. One of the criteria for landmark approval is that the new windows have similar glass area as the originals. If you would like to see photos post an email.....

You can look up the tax bill on NYC.gov website http://www.nyc.gov/html/dof/html/property/property_info_bbl.shtml.
The last quarterly statement should show the property tax plus the abatement deduction.....

We went with the Kolbe sash replacement system - this kept the existing window frames and we replaced/restored the historic brickmould. If you would like to see pictures I can email you some.....

We used Adler Windows for our Landmark window project. They handled the filings in house, so we saved a lot of money on the landmark application. Overall they were easy to work with, had competitive prices, and great workers. I would def recommend them to anyone looking for quotes.

I suggest calling Pat Murtaugh at Heights Historic Window and Door. 718 832 1182
They are Kolbe installers and they know what they are doing. There are two window install types to consider - One is Sash replacement and the other is full frame replacement. Typically full frame is more satisfying as the operation of the units is easier, but it really depends upon the conditions of your house. But again, I would recommend you talk to Pat - he is very knowledgeable.

Thanks so much for the offer of photos. Turns out my neighbors down the block installed Kolbe replacements recently, so I am going to go over there to check them out.
And thanks for the recommendation of Heights Historic Windows--I made an appointment with Pat Murtaugh next week.
