Responsibility

Can an owner sell a home that has asbestos and a room infected with mold "as is"?Or do they have to remove it?

Landmark Society

I am in the process of buying a historical landmark home in Ft. Greene and would like to know how strict the landmark society is in regards to the facade of the house. Want to restore it but not sure what I can and can not do. Am I correct in assuming they only govern the facade and not the interior or back of the home?

Prints and Plans

Where do I go to find prints, plans and any information on a house I'm buying in Ft. Greene? Is there an online source?

Hello Brooklyn!

Have recently made an offer on a house on Cumberland St. It's a house that has graced this site in a past feature. My plan is to return it to it's original glory. Many pix and gripes to follow. I already feel like family!

Thank you all for some great information. Can't wait to be part of the Ft. Greene neighborhood! Went to my first FLEA
and loved every bit of it. The food was great, the people very friendly and within walking distance from our future home. Again many thanks!

The plan is to save as much of the trim and flooring as possible. But no, we won't have a gloomy interior! As for the stove..My girlfriend loves to cook and does it quite well I might add. Yes the house is in Ft. Greene and by best guess was built civil war era! I'm fired up to get the project going.

Yeah, ask Brownstoner to track your renovation on this site. I think I know which house you bought. If you're able to restore it, it'll be a beauty. Great location. Congrats.

It's very hard to match. Until you sand and finish the ol subfloors, you have no idea what the color will be. If you don't need a lot, I would recomend doing what we did -- harvest some of your own flooring from inside closets and under areas where you will be putting kitchen cabinets, etc. Use those to fill in. Then put plywood subfloors under your cabs and new wide plank pine in your closets.

thanks nypaulie and slopefarm. I'm hoping staining will help to unify the colors.

how many feet you looking for?

Posted by: southslope at May 4, 2009 7:45 PM in response to pine wide plank subfloor needed

we saw and dry our own lumber (cherry, wlanut, oak, pine) from old growth trees that have been harvested due to new construction or a liability for the homeowner. custom sizes are availalbe, call Bob @ 718-261-8430.
