North Flatbush Avenue BID

The North Flatbush BID launcheds its new online website www.nfbid.com in January 2009 where shoppers, residents and business owners may find the latest information about what is happening on North Flatbush Avenue.

After many years talking about needing a new website and a couple of false starts, the North Flatbush BID is now online with a brand new website. In the middle of January 2009, at the helm with Joe Orr and Sharon Davidson, both BID Board Members, the North Flatbush Avenue BID launched its new website, www.nfbid.com and is targeted toward shoppers, residents and merchants of North Flatbush Avenue District.

For shoppers, we are planning to introduce our brand new merchant brochure online where with just a click of a button, anyone can navigate their way around our district and find out where they can shop and dine with our mix of new retail stores, organic and health food stores, pharmacies, vintage boutiques, real estate businesses, hardware and housewares, liquors and wine and a wide variety of international foods and restaurants. We hope to have this brochure up and running within the next few days. We now have a way to communicate witho out residences about our new streetscape design and plan for the distric that is slated for 2009 and how they can be a part of our community forums.

For merchants, our website offers them an easy way to find out what the BID is doing and how they can communicate with the BID about issues they are facing.

We hope you will take a few minutes to visit and explore our new website and to learn more about our wonderful neighborhood. Visit frequently to find out the latest information on what is happening on North Flatbush Avenue.

hey people, lets move on. Because of DDDB - this area has been blighted for longer than it should, Because of DDDB this area has become a dark and dangerous corner to walk, during the day and night, becuase of DDDB no new businesses have entered into this area, Because of DDDB new businesses have folded because they were relying on the stadium for revenue, because of DDDB, Daniel Goldstein has put himself and his family in dangerous jeopardy. Because of DDDB this once thriving neighborhood looks like SHIT!
Let's move on and build something already.!!!!!!! An arena is better than the shitty looking empty railyard that sat for years in that neighborhood, when crack was being sold and used in that yard. No one complained then. Dan Goldstein was happy to raise his family in that neighborhood.
The majority of property owners and residents in the Ft. Greene, Prospect Heights and Park Slope neighborhood want progress and dont give a rats ass about DDDB. The residents who had to leave the footprint were the ones who got sweetheart deals!!! Property owners got great deals, and henry weinstein and the rest of the property owners in the area cant wait for a sweetheart deal!!! Everyone benefits including our neighborhood. BRING ON THE ARENA!!!!

If anyone wants to see how the old trolleys used to look and run on Flatbush Avenue, check out the North Flatbush Avenue Business Improvement Districts website at www.nfbid.com and click on the video gallery. There is a great vintage video showing the trolleys along Flatbush Avenue, Bergen and Fifth Avenue, Ninth Street. See if you can identify some of the shops. www.nfbid.com

There are many winners, all different neighborhoods, and the contest runs every year. I am proud to say someone from my neighborhood won - even if it is 2nd place - but Burrito Bar and Kitchen won 2nd place for GREENEST STOREFRONT - and this is the second year that restaurant has won... My neighbrohood is Prospect Heights. Check out bbg.org and see all the winners.

I would highly recommend getting a permit $25 from the parks department. If you dont have one, they will fine you (sometimes not always inforced, but lately they have been cracking down) $150.00. The best place is the entrance at 15th street , lots of benches. You usually get the permit that day if you go to the administration department inside the park. it is the best advise.

Franny's. Overpriced, too much tude. And food is not great. It is only pizza. Franny should start mingling with the regulars to make this joint feel like a part of this community but she is a bit snooty for my taste. Someone told me that she has a relative that writes about this place all the time in New York Mag and that is why she gets rave reviews. NEPOTISM... hELLO! pIZZA IS PIZZA. nOW SHE; IS OPENING UP ANOTHER SHOP ON FLATBUSH AVENUE CALLED BROOKLYN LARGER OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. ISTAFF NICER. HOPE THE PRICES ARE LESS AND THE

I visited this place after several friends said its a good place for brunch. i tried it on a late sunday afternoon wwas dissapointed in every aspect of this place. ?First of all, the poor service by our wait staff. The waiter came over and said "howya doin". yes, very Joey from Friends style but without the personality. then it took forever for our omelettes and drinks to arrive. When I mentioned that I ordered a bloody Mary and not a Martini, he took my drink away and never came back until I flagged him down. I reminded him of my bloody Mary again. He came 10 minutes later with a Virgin Mary and told me "here is your Virgin Mary that you ordered". I said I did not order this drink and forget my regular drink too, as I was almost finished with my meal. The waiter never asked if we wanted anything else, refill n coffee, and gave us the check. there was my Bloody Mary..... on the check...... I asked for a manager or the owner and he told me that "Mick" is the owner and he was in and out. Someone from my party said, "in and out of the bathroom doing coke probably". Well, Mick, get your arse out of the toilet and get back to managing your restaurant, because the service stinks. And I am one person who will NEVER go back there. I like BEAST for a great brunch and wonderful service, I like MUTARD on 5th Avenue for brunch and I also like my neighborhood PARKSIDE DINER for a good omelette and home fries. At least everyone in the restaurant smiles......

I agree with most everyone on this blog. Franny's has a great rep for the pizza, but that is because NYMag has raved about this place so many damn times. Why? becasue a relative of Francine's is the food editor... that's why. So people go based on the reviews. Is it worth the wait and the money? I dont think so. I have been there wwith a large crowd and when it started to get busy, Franny walked by our table every 3seconds to make sure we getting ready to leave. The waitress deposited our check before we asked for it and didnt offer us dessert. That takes balls, and anyone in the restaurant business knows that is the worst thing you could do to a customer. When we finally paid the bill, not even a thank you from Franny herself. $350!! no thank you, "Come back again" smile, something. nada. Many people have similar stories. If you are looking for a friendly staff and great food, try GEIDO the Japanese restaurant on the next block. You want really, really great food, go to Blue Ribbon on Fifth Avenue. Otherwise, stick to Manhattan for good Napolitan brick oven pizza, there are hundreds, less expensive and i am sure they will appreciate you as a customer and say thank you, even for a $3.00 slice.

According to the recent Supreme Court win for Ratner, construction on the new Atlantic yards project is expected to start this year.
Having said that, Prospect Park is a great place to live. You can always check your neighborhood BID (Business Improvement District) which is always a good place to start for information on your nabe.

northflatbushgirl wrote a review about Burrito Bar on May 1, 2009 8:17 PM

I live in the area of Burrito Bar. Whenever a friend comes to visit, or a neighbor wants to talk, we always stop in at Burrito Bar, hey the food is ok. Hankering for a good burger, some chips and guacomole, an empanada, a good mojito or pina colada, this is the joint. Its fun and you can always find a friend doing the same. Its NEIGHBORHOOD! If you are looking for the best of Mexican, then by all means, spend $75 at Dos Cominos in Manhattan. But for a good tex-mex bite, no other place like it in the neighborhood. And that is exactly what it is. A great NEIGHBORHOOD JOINT!! . How many neighborhoods can say they have a local fun joint with outdoor seating and fine dj's with afoordable food in their neghborhoods. And, by the way, the North Flatbush Avenue BID has a paid sanitation worker 7 days a week who cleans up the avenue. its NOT dirty, its beautiful and so many people use the avenue for their stroll towards Atlantic Avenue or towards the Botanic Gardens. This is MY neighborhood, and if you dont like it, stay in yours.........

i actually tried the food, there is sushi stuff but the menu is eclectic and diverse and everything is fresh and made to order. The srvie was great and the prices reasonalbe. I left the restaurant assured to myself that I would be back. The sushi is much better than Geido too. just try it and see for yourself.

northflatbushgirl wrote a review about Amin Indian on February 17, 2009 12:27 AM

although AMIN is good, far bettr and also in the neighborhood is JOY INDIAN RESTAURANT at 301 Flatbush Avenue near Park Place. The folks are so hospital, the place spotlesss and the food is consistenly great. The prices are good too! The mango lasse is fresh. I highly recommend JOY INDIAN. open 7 days a week. I have been eating at this restaurant for bout 5 years and have never had "deli belly". good enough for me.

Brooklyn Larder is located on Flatbush Avenue, not on Bergen as previosly reported, 228 Flatbush to be exact. lets hop that Franny doesnt exactly work the shop. Her sour puss is anything but greatful when you go into Franny's for one of those over priced "pizza". Franny is there most days and will never talk to regular customers unless they are a personal friend of hers. I was in there with family and friends and $230 later I wasnt satisfied with just a pizza for dinner. A note to you, Franny, wipe the sourpuss off your face and be nice to everyone, if you want repeat customers.
