Hi
We finished some work for a couple last summer and their idea of what they wanted for the place was great, you can tell they know how to design and what colors to use in any given place. You should contact them, I'm sure they would be able to help out out with this.
Email at: didyahear@gmail.com (let her know Christine from New Arrow Construction LLC Referred you to them, they are a wonderful couple).

Hi
It basically depends on what you plan on doing with the place (architect can help where plans are needed). Only if you are adding an extension or if some main beams needs to be tended to or if you are gutting entire building, you can go with an engineer (they can help with the plans also), if it's just gutting room by room, you can have a contractor look at it. I can tell you more after viewing the place. If you would like, I can come out and take a look, free of charge. Myself or my partner (Christine) can be reached at the number below to schedule an appointment.

You would need a plumber, an electrician and a contractor (unless you are able to patch up the wall). Some contractors already have both electrician and plumber working for them, some does not. Good luck, but am pretty sure you would need all three. If you ever need any repairs, you can give us a call or email us (pics are provided via email).

I agree with IronBalls above, I wouldn't have used the word shmuck but I understand what you mean. There are many tools that are needed to repair the hole. If you can't find someone we can come out and fix it for you but would need to know the dimension of the hole so we can bring out a piece of sheetrock. It wouldn't cost much to fix.

With the LLC, you can have an Acting Agent within your state where the mails will be addressed to. This is one way because then you would not have your private address showing up in the public records. I could be wrong but I have a LLC business and my agent receives all my mail (only in the state of NJ but in NY i kept it the same but this can be changed. Only way of knowing if it belongs to you is to call up the state and find out but the state questions the person thoroughly before giving any information out. So would advise it, but consult a lawyer first (my knowledge of it is the owners address is kept privately if they have an acting agent within their state to receive mails on behalf of them (don't know if you will have good tax benefits because I still yet have to own my first home). Currently in business with my partner and can tell you this much about filing for an LLC.
Hope all goes well

Hi
Was he insured?
You may have to take him to court or report the incident to the DCA if he doesn't fix the job (depending on if the job was completed upon your satisfaction, he may not be held responsible if the work was completed a few months ago...you may have to seek legal help on this issue). This is why most home owners ask for insured Contractors.
If you are looking for a contractor, I can come out to give a free estimate for the job and have the plumber I work with, take a look at the system and see what is causing the problem. You can give me a call in the morning if you are in urgent need to get this repaired.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi
Usually when the weather changes, the hard plastic that surrounds the glass, looses its shape. Thus, letting in cold air into any window. This makes the owner have to change the windows (some people thing by simply doing what they do to it, it will solve the problem but it only is a temporary fix, you will eventually have to get it replaced. When fixing it, regardless of Contractor, have them put something called shims to the sides and top frames of the windows (when he removes the old one...you will need to tell them before ordering the windows, because they have to cater for this). If they said that's not necessary or they don't know what you're talking about, don't hire them. We are a General Contractor and we do this with all of our windows (not a lot of people know this helps to give the windows a bit of a longer life). If you do decide on replacing it and would like to contact us, You can reach either me or my partner a the number below to make an appointment to get a free estimate.

Well, If you have before and after pics...including other documents such as payment etc... would be helpful (if you are going to take him to court). Also, since he is licensed, you should have some info with his license number, report him to the DCA (department of Consumer Affairs & call 311 and report his business).

Hi
A "N" router should have done the trick to send signals all over the home....the "G" router will not help much. What kind of router is it (Signal wise)? They have A, B, G & N (N being the strongest signal carrier)...you shouldn't have problems with that one. You shouldn't have to extend it either. Saw on in Staples at Gateway Mall in Brooklyn for under a $100.
Hope this helps

Actually it's Flatbush Ave (this runs into Grand Army Plaza, which is included in Prospect Heights), Washington Ave, Atlantic Ave & Eastern Parkwway( The first two are parallel to each other as well as the last two..they are parrarel to each other also).
These four streets border Prospect Heights. As for Ashington, I don't see that anywhere on the map but I could be wrong...only going by what the map says. Map below

Structural vs non structural wall is an issue. If you have to open it and put up a header, the price starts to climb.
That wall has just got to go tho'!
Look at Home Surplus (Bklyn NY and NJ) for cabinets.
Consider EBA (Nostrand Ave/Bklyn) for appliances. (ask for Hector). Good tile and trimmings don't hurt anyones feelings
either.
Get several estimates, check work; you know the drill. It
can be a really cheerful room, and the kitchen is ooh soooo important!!

Seems a lil' excessive to me. Sometimes these agents are just doing a cya more than anything sensible. I'd ask him specifically why he feels this needs a permit, and perhaps ask him if by using a managing-agent-friendly plumber he could just get it done.
Posted by: denton at May 16, 2009 10:27 AM in response to permits for bathtub replacement
Consult a licensed plumber. I think this work requires a plumbing repair slip, submitted by your plumber to the DOB under the fast track initiative. Not a big deal, not hard to do, no reason to complain or avoid.
Posted by: vinca at May 16, 2009 10:38 AM in response to permits for bathtub replacement
No, you do not need to file a plumbing repair slip (known as an LAA permit.) Replacing a fixture or relocating a fixture within the same room no more than 10 feet can be filed by a LICENSED PLUMBER on a new form called an OP-128.
Posted by: Brooklyn Plumber at May 16, 2009 11:09 AM in response to permits for bathtub replacement

I agree with Rick...for the toilet no need to file but for the clawtub, once the pipes are to be changed etc, you would need a permit for moving drains. As for management, if they say you have to get a permit...you just have to go along to avoid any legal action with them.
Wish you luck with everything.
