Do OFF Clip-ons Really Exist?

I've been seeing comercials for the OFF clip-on mosquito repeller. It looks like it might be useful to me when I am out in the garden. Has anyone found where to buy them in brooklyn? I've been all over and no sign of them yet.

Painting Exposed Ceiling

I'm in the process of finishing the basement. I chose to leave the ceiling exposed and wish to paint it. I've already sanded it. What is the best primer and paint to use? I plan on spraying it on and also plan to paint the exposed pipes. I'm torn between using white or black. Has anyone painted their ceilings black like the do in some restaurants? The ceilings are 8' tall from the bottom of the joists 8.5' tall between them.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

i did pine planks over foam board insulation and plywood. They are cheap, easily replaceable, and they look good.

Very interesting THL. Maybe not being able to find them is saving me from yet another disappointing purchase. Thanks for the info.

Thanks for all of your input brownstoners. Someone here at work suggested that i use some sort of textured white paint. She thinks that it will hide the inperfections. What do you think?

Frugal1- Good Luck. What I didn't mention was that the guy was getting very frustrated with the company and told me that he didn't think he would be working for them much longer. That coupled with the fact that I wouldn't accept his initial prices could have been his motivation to give me a good deal.

That said, in this economy I think the salesman would rather make less of a commission than nothing at all. Remember he is not doing the labor nor will he show up when the workers are there. All he invests in this is gas for transportation and his mouth. Make him give you a good deal.

I've used empire for Blinds and carpeting for the stairs. they were very reasonable although you can't accept the first price they give you. The guy that came to my house let me know that the price depends upon the saleman. The higher price he can get you to pay the more he keeps for himself.

He went from asking about $400 per Hunter douglas top down/ bottom up blind to $500 for three installed. He also cut the carpet price down from $750 berber carpet per flight of stairs to $900 for 2 flights installed.

I was very happy with the service, quality, and speed. Blinds take about a week and Carpet was done the next day.

Just make sure you get a good deal!

Try this beauty from the MOMA Store. I think I am going to buy it.

They did a good job on the iron cellar doors that they did for me. I have no doubt that they would do a great job with your security bars. Courteous and professional. They came when they said they would and they also cleaned up after themselves. Rates are reasonalble also. Hope this helps.

I agree that you should not keep it out around small children. Perhaps you can put it behind furniture/ appliances or somewhere they won't be able to get to it.

I agree with the $1,600-$1,800 range. I have tenants in a newly renovated 900 SF two bedroom in bedstuy on the top floor with no yard access or dishwasher and they pay $1,550. H & HW is included. Hope this helps.

I've been using the Ratzapper for almost two years and I tell you that thing is great. It worked the first night catching two mice within minutes of each other and caught 2 additional mice within the week. No major problems since. I keep the trap on at all times. The mice that manage to get in are caught before I even sense that one is in the house now. I also placed one in the back yard where I have seen a rat or two. I put the trap inside of a box with a garbage bag over it and put a trail of dry dog food on the ground leading into the trap. Caught a fat one within two days and a smaller rat about two days later.

The classic model works very good and priced at $40. No need to spend $55 for the ultra model.

Thanks for taking the time to let us all know how well this has worked for you. I'm in but have one question for anyone with kids...in a house with a curious and active 15 month old, I'm assuming I have to turn this off and put it away when the baby is awake, right?

I certainly would not leave this anywhere a 15 month old baby could get at it. While I don't believe the level of electric shock would be able to do great harm to a toddler I sure wouldn't want to find out! We only put ours out after we go to bed, which is when the mice are active anyway. A little one might be able to reach into the device and touch the electrical plate and at the very least get a terrific scare.

H $ HW is included and the apartment is about 1000 sf with the backyard about 500sf plus 13ft ceilings thru out the apartment... I was kind of thinking about $1800 - $1900.

Thanks for all your feeback.

Just hope your neighbor doesn't buy the same brand (as mine did)

You'll be checking your door all night.
Get a regular one.

nbklyn: that was interesting info! My guy took out his calculator and everything so I figured it would be pointless trying to haggle. If I go with them I'll be sure to remember this...:)
Thanks

Lowes has them and contrary to to above, purchasing mutiples of the same model allow for setting changes so each is unique.

we got a VERY simple small silver one w/a black button from ace hardware, but i don't see it on their site anymore. decent, plain, non-modern ones are almost impossible to find.

And ours does go off randomly from time to time (1-2 times/week), although with a different chime than the one we have for our door, so we've learned to ignore it.
