Sidewalk street tree gate???
Hi I just received my street tree this morning and I am so happy but I would like to put a gate around it high enough so that people will not let their dogs in and just enough for me to get debris. does anyone know of a steel company that can do a job like this??
Thanks

At Butterfly....
Yes I was thinking that these kids instead of hanging out being obnoxious, they should have been home.
When I was in high school my mom had a fit If I wasn't home
by 4:30pm so I yes I wondered why were these kids out on a school night.

OMG....i was over at Atlantic Terminal yesterday around the same time and there were alot of kids hanging out but there were also alot of cops.
I was thinking to myself that these kids should have been home doing homework or at least keeping themselves preoccupied with
something more positive other than the mall.
Unbelievable

Hancock between Marcy and Tompkins is such a beautiful block
I am so surprised that it has not been land marked.

I had my baby shower this past weekend at the John C. Kelly House. That house is so beautiful I met the owner Ms. Claudia Moran about two years agao and I have obsessed with her home
she has done a great job restoring it the original details blows my mind...the man who had it before made this home into a SRO and she restored it to it's original beauty!!

I have to agree with CommodoreStephenDecatur & P...
I love this part of Bed-Stuy I think it is absolutely charming.
and I really have ask Dave this question because I saw above you stated that Between Patchen & Ralph aves is not prime, have you ever taken a walk down to this part of Bed-Stuy??
there are actually beautiful rows of brownstones in the area
and it has changed alot since I moved here. I love the Saratoga Park also!!

Lack of details do not bother me so much, but the width of this brownstone is pretty small 15 feet wide is tight. In my opinion the going price of $1,375,000 is pushing it regardless of location.

Finally something like this arriving to my neck of the woods!! my husband and I will definitely support!

Montrose Moriis, thank you for enlightening us with some of Brooklyn's beautiful buildings. I wanted to tell you that there is a mansion In Bed-Stuy called the Victorian 247 Hancock St between Tompkins and Marcy aves that was designed by Montrose Morris and it is absolutely beautiful!!!
he designed a few homes on Hancock, across the street from the Victorian. Mr. Morris i would have never known about this great
architect if it wasn't for you.
Thanks

Lo Kee i agree with you, police departments have always manipulated statistics. The proof is in the pudding.
Besides what do you expect people bought home worth millions next to project what did you think would happen?

@ chickenoid23....
I would also ask Letitia James to see if she can get some of the stimulus cash to improve the lighting around Carlton & Willouhgby...I mean Brooklyn Heights is getting brand new EXPENSIVE antique street lights, which i might add they really do not need since there is nothing with the street lights that they currently have.

@ Herkermaid i totally agree with you!

Wow you folks are unbelievable....
Okay bloomtransp have you checked out the area at night?? if not then do so. I will agree the G train sucks so you may want to think about that I used to live on Bedford between Dekalb and Willoughby about a block away from where you are planning to live so I am quite familiar with the area and trust me it has changed tremendously but just like anywhere else you have to be aware of your surroundings crimes happen in Crown Heights, Clinton Hill and yes even Bed-Stuy.
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 27, 2009 11:05 AM in response to Dekalb and Nostrand Safe?
Beautiful house...It really doesn't bother me to see the formal dining room on the ground floor because you can also entertain your guest in the garden if you wanted to,but I have to agree a powder room on the ground floor would be nice!

Wait A CrownHeightsLady ...Our supermarkets especially Associated on Broadway
by Ralph Ave has changed alot we finally carry organic food and fresh fruit and vegtables...Also I might add that we have a Farmers market on Gates & Broadway and if all else fails Fresh Direct finally delivers in the area.
I wish there were better stores but food is most important
I just want a good book store and a coffee shop
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 20, 2009 3:41 PM in response to Rental Picks: Bed-Stuy Edition
@ CrownHeightsLady yes i would say the some parts of North Bed Stuy needs work, but as I stated before that there has been an influx of people who are moving(those who can no longer afford Williamsburg) into the neighborhood. I see this just riding on the J train every day it is amazing.I love Stuyvesant Heights especially McDonough between Stuyveant & Lewis my favorite block but North Stuy is going through this great transformation>
I just wish that Broadway had more to offer such as coffee shops like Athom and book stores, etc.
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 20, 2009 2:57 PM in response to Rental Picks: Bed-Stuy Edition
@ Mopar...
you can take the J train to Brooklyn Bridge/Chambers and
transfer to the 4 train uptown which also goes express and head to 42nd st Grand Central. I do not frequent the L train only because it is a little out of the way for me.
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 20, 2009 1:31 PM in response to Rental Picks: Bed-Stuy Edition
Have you all taken a walk around the norther part of Bed Stuy to observe what is going on? some of the apt especially located cusp Bushwick is completely changing I have been in the
area for 5 years and noticed the complete transformation.
Some of these prices for rent are not far off especially for these newly renovated apartment
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 20, 2009 12:43 PM in response to Rental Picks: Bed-Stuy Edition
I take the J train every morning and I can get to the Empire state building in 30mins taking the express J and the express Q
the A train to me is fast but not as fast as the J
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 20, 2009 12:33 PM in response to Rental Picks: Bed-Stuy Edition
@ DaveinBedStuy I have to disagree though this area is not Stuyvesant Heights
the Northern part of Bed Stuy is actually transforming The JMZ commute is actually better than the A and the going price for a 1 bedroom duplex, 2 bathrooms, garden $1400 sounds correct and to be honest they are great looking apartments

Wow.... "I’m very mad at the city right now." he should be more mad with the landlord that has been collecting rent for the past ten years and for not making sure the building was up to code.

Hey Dibs...I recognize this home...OK I am not stalking you but I was walking through Bed Stuy and I remember two men working on a brownstone facade similar to this and I was so impressed okay so now the question is can you finally pass me the contractor who did your refacing.
Beautiful JOB!!
Thanks!!
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 14, 2009 11:05 PM in response to DIBS Refinishes His Facade
No this isn't strange I think it is okay to enforce no baseball caps, droopy jeans or hoodies'. Sneakers well everyone wears sneakers mostly for comfort.
But i think this would be a great addition to the neighborhood!
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 12, 2009 12:28 PM in response to Brooklyn Food & Drink Round-Up
Exactly BO....I truly hope the find these guys, this was a senseless crime. Whether crime is decreasing in Clinton Hill and Fort Green this is still scary.I have driven past certain blocks in Fort Green and Clinton Hill at night and yes the blocks are beautiful but it seems pretty scary walking around certain parts at night you never know who is lurking around.

Wow I am surprised that there aren't any comments about the lack of original details....
Besides that this house is LOVELY and I must agree the renovation is excellent I am downloading pics of this house for my reference!!! The seller should get get 1.5.

@diemond... Truly you should not be living in a building where the landlord obviously does not give a damn about the property,
because if he is taking time with repairing the common area imagine how long he would take with repairing anything in your apartment.
Just look for another apartment fast!

Did you try looking up the history of the property on Property Shark or Dept. Of Building. Both are great resources for looking up the background of the property.

Congrats Mopar...My husband and I have been living in the neighborhood for about 4 years and we have seen alot of positive changes
I remember when I first came out to Broadway(bed-Stuy/Bushwick) about 18 years ago and it was frightening especially walking around the area mid afternoon, but it has improved so much.
You can not beat using the J and Z trains especially when it runs express in the morning and rush hour evenings just note that from 2pm- 7:30pm the J runs express.
Good Luck!!

@ Mopar...I live by the Gates and Kosciuszko stops and i can get to 34th street in a half an hour the only thing i would complain about are the types of business in the area it could be better but Athom the coffee shop just opened on Broadway and just as you mention the Green market on Gates. To be honest the area is by no means Stuyvesant Heights.
Posted by: mysideofstuy at August 5, 2009 9:53 PM in response to Foreclosure of the Week: 821 Greene Avenue
@ : pierre de taille....please do not listen to some folks on here...
This is not the least desirable of Bedford Stuyvesant.
True it is not close to Fulton but you can hop on the J train if you are willing to walk a couple of block(J train is super fast) or you can take the 46 bus on Malcolm X. Who ever decides to buy this way will get a nice return in a couple of years.

Ok I am going to change the subject here @ Jack Spade I absoultely agree with you on this
"Why drop another 100k? This is a solid brownstone in a great area for less than a Million. The design flaws can be corrected in 4 hours tops.I say 700k. Step up to the plate or buy temporary white box in PS.
I own a brownstone in Bed Stuy and no there isn't alot of original details but the way I feel is that I still love it regardless. This price can always be negotiated between the seller & the buyer and a few changes on this house could actually be worth it.
Wishbone please disregard all of these peoples opinions
and take a loom for your self.
Bedstuy is huge so be opened to see all of it and not just Stuy heights.
Posted by: mysideofstuy at July 22, 2009 5:39 PM in response to House of the Day: 176 Bainbridge Street
Wishbone you and your wife should take a walk through this part of Bed-Stuy on a Saturday and see if you like the neighborhood. I mean this is totally different neighborhood from Park Slope. If you & your wife are opened to a change in life style then Bedford Stuyvesant could be for you....
Posted by: mysideofstuy at July 22, 2009 2:14 PM in response to House of the Day: 176 Bainbridge Street
This is a very nice block! but I am not bothered by the bedrooms being on the parlor floor. I wish the fireplaces weren't painted but who ever buys this would make out well with this house I mean It is still a brownstone.

@ daveinbedstuy I have to agree with you,
this is a bad listing.
This is why sellers have to be particular about the realty and realtor that represents them, you can not sell a home showing architectural details what about the rooms& kitchen??

I went to Athom yesterday when I got off the J train...
The cafe is really cute, I bought a apple turnover it was really tasty, I told the owner that Athom was featured on Brownstoner and to expect alot of folks to come by. I am really happy that this has come to the area!!

My husband and I rent to college students and we have the parents sign the lease c/o their children who will be living there.
Ask for a copy of their drivers license and request a credit check as well. If they are serious about their children staying and they are mature enough it shouldn't be an issue.

Beautiful....
Victorian homes are so beautiful because the passion of such beauty shows through in the workmanship.
I was walking through McDonough between Stuyvesant and Lewis and was floored by the architecture of these brownstones.
Nothing today can be matched
