Self cleaning feature for kitchen stove

I am going to buy new kitchen stove soon. I like DCS stove. Here is my question, is self-cleaning useful and important feature? I haven't used self cleaning feature and don't know how important it is. Price is very different with or without it. $800 difference. I assume to use stove for 5years, is it worth to get this feature? Please give me your thoughts.

Thank you!

How to make sure if it's 2 fam or 3 fam???

Here is my situation.
I bought a limestone townhouse lately. It's 3 family townhouse that I still believe. One day before closing, our attoney told me " it's not sure if your townhouse is 3fam, maybe 2 fam. it's not black and white because of pre-war townhouse." Then our attorney said he can't give the further information and he told us not to investigate, not to call city or BOD and not to bring up the topic now and just wait until I recieve multi house registration (not sure, something like that). He said that it'll be okay if I recieve it, but if I don't recieve, it's a problem. It's 3 story and 3 apartments.
Property shark says it's 3 fam and all houses in same block are 3 fam. Our tax is for 3 fam. Electric meters are 3 and gas meters are 2. There are no official mailbox and just 2 non locked boxes used as mailbox. It's clearly stated that 3 fam in the bank appraisal. All documents during the closing were not stated as 3 fam, but multi family or 2-3 fam category. Anyhow I love my townhouse so much no matter what, but I need to know! I hope this won't cause me any problem. Anybody who have or had same experience? Please give more info and share your similar experience with me. Tnank you....

Any caution when you look for tenants and give lease

My husband and I finally got very beautiful 3fam townhouse with high ceiling and original details. Now what? We have to have nice tenants. What's good way to find good tenants besides Craigs list and brokers? How do you get lease form? We want to add some restriction (such as no renovation without our approval) to lease form because apts have many details. I don't know how to do credit history check and background check,,,,. How much do we have to know about tenants such as job, SS#, private problem? What kind of questions are good?
How to maintain your tenants etc.
I am so confused now.
Please give me any advise from your experiences.
Deeply appreciated.

Thank you for your info.
Since before 1938, my house doesn't have C fo O on DOB and no info on HPD as well. I guess there are many multi family houses that were built before 1938. Don't those owners care of 2 or 3 fam? I am so curious still... Is this not big problem?

It's very dangerous to do without permit! Please think what if your neighbors complain to DOB and when you sell your house.
Other people say whatever they say, but only you take responsibility for it. I am in process of permit for extension back of my house.

The best place for appliances is Drimmers on Coney Island Avenue. I use them personally and professionally.

The only appliance I own that I didn't get there was a Staber washing machine. It's not the swankest, but it is way more energy efficient than anything else out there and 100% user serviceable (if and when that day comes.

I used S&W appliances in Williamsburgh and found them very helpful and with better prices than Drimmers. (I bought a thermador range and dishwasher from them.)

Any solid color granite is going to be a bit of a maintenance queen.

Am I blind or something? I have read about stained granite many times on this site, but I have had no experience. My granite is a light color grey-green with specks. It's honed and I've never ever done any kind of sealing treatment. I spill coffee, chinese food, whatever on it and wait hours to clean it up - no stains. If water sits on it in areas around the sink, it darkens, but that disappears in no time once it's dry. Maybe my eyes are just going.

I've got gray speckled granite counters too. I had a leaky drip maker which left a nice brown stain under the unit. It probably took a week or two but it's there nevertheless. My neighbor's son-in-law owns a granite company in NJ and says he's got a product to take it out on his next trip.

When I was looking for white Thassos marble for my bathroom, I was told I could use "china white" as it is just as white and far less expensive. It turns out however, that this substance is made of glass and so unlike stone, it cannot be cut to the specificity you would cut marble and so for wet areas like a kitchen and bath, you end up with not perfect angles, leaving you open to water seepage. The pieces I ordered were jagged, not cut to 90 degree angles and when I asked for them to be redone, I was told it was not possible. Plus, though I don't know this for sure, a glass substance in a kitchen probably leaves you open to chipping. I'd advise against.

"china white" that is exactly what I am talking about. I was told that it's natural stone. And I saw the rough corner edge as well. You are so right. I will go for marble even though I am scared of knowing quotation of marble,,,.Thanks, jlo.

marble should not be used in a kitchen. it stains easily and is porous and therefore, unsanitary...believe me...its true.

Another 'seldom/never' user of this feature. The one time I messed up the oven enough that I needed more than a damp sponge to clean it out, a can of (no doubt toxic) Easy Off worked amazingly well.

Posted by: zeebee_in_bklyn at June 23, 2008 8:18 AM in response to Self cleaning feature for kitchen stove

Use it. Wouldn't buy a stove without it.

Its not something you need to do everyday but its nice to not have to use noxious chemicals to clean an oven when it needs it.
