Good Appliance Repair
I found a reference here to an appliance repair service, Father and Son Appliance (718-344-3362). After learning that it would be a week for GE to fix my fridge I called these guys and they were excellent. Before coming out they tried to help me fix the problem myself, to save money. When that didn't work they came out immediately and fixed it, at a good rate. So, I'm keeping their card. You might try them.

Cleaning under a roofdeck
When checking out the deck on the apartment I bought last year I just noticed that leaves and dirt (from planters) are blocking the flow of water. I worry about a leak. Unfortunately the deck has very little clearance (12" max) and is not sectional, otherwise I'd do it myself. Any suggestions for someone who could do this kind of thing?

Roof and deck inspection
Before putting a garden in on our roofdeck I'd like to get the deck looked over to make sure it's structurally sound. Who does that kind of work?

Insurance consultant
My co-op wants to reconsider its insurance policies, and we are wondering if there are insurance consultants out there. I.e, someone who will give objective advice (for a fee) but not try to sell us insurance. Ideas?

scooter parking
There was a police sweep of scooters parked along 3rd Street this week, and the police said they were under orders fromt he Mayor's office to get them all off the sidewalks. Anyone know anything about this, or how long it will last? Heads up to all scooter owners...

Drawer repair
My new place has some built in drawers that need work before they can be used. Has anyone had experience with a local carpenter who did this kind of work? Thanks. (This is a re-post, since the earlier one got no responses>)

If these prints are valuable to you I'd use someone who deals with art/artists. I've had wonderful luck with Anne Gibbs at While Mule Picture Frames. She's right in Chelsea and works with a lot of artists but is REASONABLE with ordinary people like you and me. The email address I have is wmpf.nyc@gmail.com.

IKEA has some very simple and very cheap ones, though they don't snap together. About 18"x18", and only $6 I think. i"ve just laid some down on my roof and they look good.

Response to tcurran42: it is sitting on the roof on what appear to be wood supports.

Thanks for those responses. We have no agent; it's a small place. And brokers are what we want to avoid. Thanks to guest2 for the Cooperator column, which helps. Other suggestions????

This deck sounds like it was improperly installed. In most cases it is against building code to have a wood deck sitting directly on the roof, which was not designed to carry the load of a deck, never mind a roof garden. If this is a roof on a older masonary row house you need to have everything supported on steel beams. You would also have to file drawing with the DOB and obtain permitts. If you would like to talk about further assistance you can email me.

I just used a curapay tile from the decking outlet (1888)848-4537 Ana. They were easy to install and well contructed. They looked beautiful, however I'm noticing they're beginning to fade, it was recommended to treat them with uv protected oil/finish since they're in direct sunlight on the roof. I'll see how they age and update.
Overall, it was a easy beautiful job.

I recommend Carlo Ferraris @ Allegheny Productions in NYC. I have seen some of work and it is very good.

I have used Manhattan Frame in the past on valuable photographs. I think they handle art from collectors and galleries. They are expensive, but worth it. I know some Chelsea galleries use Chelsea Frames.

Try Simon's Window Cleaning (the guys in the green vintage VW van): 1-888-474-7119. Not cheap, but they did a great job for us.

Darren at Prints Charming has done almost all our picture framing. He's very knowledgeable, really understands how different frames complement (or don't) a specific piece of art, what color of mat board you need etc. His taste is somewhat conservative but always with the needs of the art uppermost. He's not inexpensive.
