So was it the little blue car with the red van on top of it, where the driver was killed?

Mamacita wrote a review about The Soul Spot on August 21, 2008 2:27 PM
Been here plenty of times, as there's really no other soul food place nearby. And seriously, LOL! to the the Brawta comment. I won't even go into there as race stuff is volatile here as it is.
Back to point: Fried chicken is good, and tastes homemade and really crispy. Mac n cheese is good, but your typical stuff nothing transcendent. Fish is good.. eh I guess for the area you really can't go wrong. It's cheap soul food served up in hot pans and probably not too fresh, but definitely hits the spot if you want greasy and salty fried food.
"CO-Housing?"
Yeah, I did that, but it was called "living in the college dorms" in my day.

That place will look dated quick. Kinda sterile like a doctor's office. Yuck!

Mamacita wrote a review about Lucali on August 7, 2008 1:45 PM
Ignore the stroller comment, total BS.
The pizza is very good and the calzones will put you in a cheese coma. It's ALWAYS packed, that's the downside. Also the pizza is not crisp, might have been originally, but those bad boys come out nowadays soft and limp. Still, I could care less because the dough is excellent, the sauce is brilliant and the cheese is better than any other in the area.
The only gripe I have is that whenever an overinflated 'foodie' describes any pizza joint they always place it against Difara. Like that gives their review more street cred. Makes me want to slap them. (rant over)
Congrats!
The awesomeness of brownstoner has increased :-)

Mamacita wrote a review about Christie's Jamaican Patties on July 23, 2008 1:50 PM
Excellent patties. Super flaky and packed with spices. This is not health food kids. I've been getting take out patties since before they moved to their present location. Grab a couple and take them down to the now evicted Mooneys for a beer. Good times.
Note: they are on vacation now, so don't head over without calling and seeing when they're due back.
Mamacita wrote a review about Smoke Joint on July 22, 2008 5:08 PM
Meh, is the appropriate word for this place.
Not impressive. Had the catfish sandwich and it was crispy and well battered, soft and flaky on inside, but no flavor. No seasoning on the crust and the fish itself didn't make up for it. Also tried the pork sandwich, sauces were too simple (no depth) and the meat was completely unremarkable. I'm a NC bbq snob so that may have factored into my assessment.
But finally, the one reason I never went back to give them another shot was the Mac n Cheese. It was atrocious and insulted me deeply (LOL!) big thick curly noodles in a watery weird cheese 'sauce.' How can you mess up something so simple???
Mamacita wrote a review about Bonnie's Grill on July 21, 2008 2:04 PM
Bonnies is the best burger and 'crack' fries in town. Absolutely addictive. Burger is enormous and perfectly charred on the outside juicy as all hell on the inside.Fries are cripsy, golden and perfectly salty. Wings are not frozen or battered, always excellent. Tons of hot sauces to choose from and all the chipotle aioli you want. Been going to here for years and it's still my #1 burger, you just can get so much, so well, for so little.
Mamacita wrote a review about ChipShop on July 21, 2008 11:07 AM
Love chipshop!
I just took an out of town guest there this weekend. Had the fried mac n' cheese with a "kids" portion of the wild mushroom Shepard's pie. It was amazing. Also ordered was the bangers and mash and deep fried pizza. Tons of deliciously greasy food and a cold beer to wash it down.
SO SAD!

Well, whatever kids.
I'm checking it out this weekend. Already have my appointment.
Mamacita the homeowner, nice ring to it ;-)
And, degraw is a nice block with some really nice neighbors that care for the area and each other. Lots of nice brownstones too.

You know, I just don't need to have a coffee shop on every corner. I don't mind walking some blocks.
Guerrilla coffee is the best in brooklyn, IMHO
and I rather have that than the sweet frappe-whatever then sell at Starschmucks.

Dammit! Now that Beyoncé went to Lucali's I'll never get in. The wait was already an hour and a half last time and there were tourists there! Now celebrities? It's just getting way to hip, in that obnoxious Manhattan-like hip, bleh.

I like the gray wall but would have done the frame detail in white. I like it, why hide a great original detail, you know?
BTW.. I love the way a gray/silver wall makes a place both crisp and contemporary yet classic and stylish.

Bleh 11:20--12pm cut and paste troll is back.
Someone mentioned to paint the walls darker, I love the light blue in there already. It's has a nice bright feel to it, especially when contrasted by the black counter tops. Very simple and modern!

I loved this feature, even though I am not looking to reno a bathroom, it was fun to see other peoples creativity and design. Very much like the "kitchen with an island" feature you did a month or so ago. It keeps the site varied and interesting. I hope you do something like this at least every once in a while.

Piramide has been open for a while now. It's getting mix reviews, most I've heard have been bad.
With all the other cheap mex alternatives nearby, I'm curious if this place will last the test of time.

Walked by there today, Tuesday. Behind the counter: Boar's Head meats, cheese, bacon......
But hell, I still hope they step up to their Katz challenge. Basic deli meats are fine. If they deliver, stay up till 3am, even better.

I won't miss Beso but the Donut place was great.
I only hope this means Associated will start selling beer and cheap. AND finally gets a real butcher and stops selling that rank smelling meat they currently have. Also milk that doesn't turn right away due to poor refrigeration.

Posted by: Mamacita at November 20, 2007 1:18 PM in response to Bathroom Reno #4: Glass Tile Time
Very contemporary. It's nice. The new toilet and sink are the best. The tub looks bigger and more useful. I hate small baths!
The old wood cabinet was ugly. I had a similar one and replaced it with a pedestal sink and it looks cleaner and more spacious, especially with a tiny bathroom like mine. As for storage: listen, you make accommodations given your space. If you're anal about storage you don't live in a brownstone with tiny baths and closets. You get a modern apartment.
