Antique French Oak flooring
We have a stack of flooring left over from a renovation. The flooring man estimated it at about 150 square feet. It is antique french oak from Exquisite Surfaces in the A&D building. It is tongue and groove and cut to apply in a herring bone pattern. It is unfinished and the buyer has to scrape, sand and finish. Paid 8.00 a square foot. Buyer must pick up from Upper West Side. The pile is roughly four feet wide and long. Leave your email if interested. THX.

Protecting Plaster
Is there anything you can do to protect plaster ceilings from loosening and falling during construction? The ceilings are in pretty great condition but all the work is making them fragile. Is there anything that can be done to support them during the work? Thanks

Feast Your Eyes On This
I got this in my mailbox today. I already have a crew working on my place but I thought I would drop this here and let you all go at it. This Old House wants a New York project and they are taking submissions. I have watched this show since I was a young las and would LOVE to be involved. Too Bad.
Good Luck.
"Hey, all
TOH TV, for the first time ever, is coming to NYC for the fall/winter 2008
project. They're seeking submissions now.
Here's the link: http://www(dot)thisoldhouse(dot)com/nyc
Why send this link around? The TV show gets it
submissions, and your friends get the opportunity to hang out with Tom and
Norm.
thanks

Marble slab grave yard?
I am looking for a couple of old, large but thin marble slabs (at least three feet by three but bigger is better.) I want to be able to look at a large range of product within an hour or so of Manhattan. I know OGT Scranton probably has a large selection but its an overnight trip really.

"This is the real deal, so if you know anyone with a brownstone or even a large apartment in the city (Brooklyn or Queens) that’s in need of a full renovation, forward this on. Unlike some other home improvement shows, This Old house actually charges for the work. The good news is, lots of appliances, fixtures, and building materials are donated, and you get the best crew in the business. TOH projects also tend to take less time, as you are on TV time."

Oh no, my fantasy is crushed. :)
But really, the trials and tribulations are not that different than any other reno job. I reckon the work/tradesmen will be above par. No?
And its This Old House man..... the first reality show ever...

I don't remember each. They took measurements of each window and worked it out that way. Some of my windows are HUGE, four feet by 9 feet. I think each was about 70.00. It hard to estimate because they did it by measurements.
Sorry I am not much help with the pricing. I was rushing to get them cleaned right before a big party at my house and I just shelled out the cash and moved on to serving drinks. :)
Just call them, they are very nice on the phone. PS I called them and they came out THE NEXT day.
:)

Oh, I did not write it down but if you call little elves they will tell you. THey are a Russian business.
The window washer team was AWESOME. I watched them in awe. THey wore construction slippers and laid down towels everywhere they worked. Again, awesome.

If you go to the top of the page and put something like old stove repair in the search box, you will find similar postings with lots of feedback and suggestions.
Good Luck!

I used the Little Elves when I moved into my apartment post construction. I found them to be very professional in every way.
I imagine if they are not exactly what you are looking for, they will recommend someone. I recently called them to recommend a window washer and it was a great recommendation.

Well, I went to OGT Scranton anyway. Had to see this thing myself. What a glorious mess it was. :)
I found some perfect slabs there and even found some nice folks to help with the purchase.
Thanks for the tips.

another vote for foro marble -- they have a lot of inventory and are easy to deal with (we bought two pieces from them).

could you pass along the info on the window washer? I'm actually looking for one for our duplex. NY Elves is based in Manhattan, but they do Brooklyn, I presume?
thanks!

Thank you.

I had an old vintage gas stove in CA and loved it so much.
I definitely want another someday! Hope you can repair it and use it.

Sounds awful- you pay, and they film and make ad money off your work and reno budget and meanwhile, they complicate the schedule and budget with their own productions schedule? Why do people want to sign up for this?

I used St. Charles of New York. They were pretty awesome. They helped us with every aspect, from layout to design to instalation. Professional. Timely. Its on the high end of the scale. We did a low key, traditional kiechen.
