Boerum Hill "Mariachi" Horn Honk
Since moving to 200 Schermerhorn in May, we have noticed a van in the area that announces itself by honking/playing its horn a few times per day and night. Has anyone else heard this?

Courthouse Apts. 125 Court St.
Just spent too much time trying to rent an apartment at 125 Court Street, Courthouse Apartments owned by Two Trees Management. Beware, the bait and switch is on! Sure they list 850 sq. ft. 1 bedroom apartments at $2800 per month but when you go to check out the unit, with the intent to lease it, they're fresh out! Since you are there the leasing assistant will gladly show you a 645 sq. ft. 1 bedroom for $2950 per month. Oh and their 1 bedroom with home office was going for $3100 per month in March. Which they also stated was $2800 per month over the phone. That price changed upon arrival as well. Liars.

Check out 200 Schermerhorn Street. You will deal directly with the building owners as I did. NO FEE and no bull$#@! like you will run into with Two Trees. We really enjoy living in this building. Good luck!

In case anyone is interested, I found out that the van I mentioned is an unlicensed livery van. I guess the driver plays his horn to alert passengers that he is in the area. It is annoying.

If you want to save some money-skip the broker. Check out 200 Schermerhorn Street. I live here and like it very much. While we are on the line between Boerum Hill and Downtown Brooklyn, the building and overall location is great. Check it out and save some cash!

Just got a great 2 bedroom apt on Schermerhorn-affordable, new, full service and staffed with courteous professionals. Can't wait to move in! Plus Brooklynfare is open now.
As for the Courthouse apartments, the YMCA membership is not included based on my exerience. The location is what attracted us in the first place but the lack of professionalism and dishonesty turned us off immediately.
Too bad because the buildings and locations are pretty good but the prices are too high in the current market and most of all their leasing staff is awful.

A friend of mine just moved in and likes it very much. We are considering it too although it's at the bottom of our shortlist. Two things I am not crazy about-no central AC, ou will need to buy your own window units. Not a huge problem but I would want central AC in a new building. The other is no washer/dryer in the unit. Only 1 laundry room for an entire wing. On the plus side Brooklynfare will be downstairs. Good train access and walking distance to shops & restaurants.

There are a lot of apartments that you can go to directly and avoid using a broker. I have moved twice in the last five years and have never used a broker. They're not worth it. Good luck!
