It's actually painted a dark brown and was done so recently. I agree the brick side would look better as brick and I wonder what the iron facade originally looked like. The other side of the building has a massive ad painted for Peter Luger's who is across the street (and has offices in this particular building too). I can't believe the building isn't land marked, it should. Unfortunately during the new paint job one of the ornamental iron flourishes that are applied throughout the building fell off (you can see the paint underneath the new coat, directly above the first car on the left and above the Capital One sign).

Wait - why destroy the beer and not just rename it something like Hope Ale? What does the beer have to do with it - I thought the problem was with the name.

Yes the economy sucks and some stores near my apt. are closing, BUT small businesses are what make the neighborhood, so the best of luck and I'll be sure to stop by and BUY something!

Hopefully it wasn't in the used section...

No they didn't put them out of business, but it is still a shame that little by little, all that is unique in neighborhoods gets squeezed out in favor of larger, generic options... and in the end if we want to stall, or eliminate such development, we need to be vocal as a community, both online and in person - so it flat out sucks that Papa John's moved in and I'd hope that people would spend their hard earned cash at a business that really needs it and is more in tune with the neighborhood.

As a live music venue I won't miss McCarren - the sound sucked and the beer line was absurd... going back to its original intention makes the most sense for the community - there are plenty of other live music venues in williamsburg.

Hate to say it, but as a brazilian this place sucks... food is subpar and very expensive. Caipirinhas are way too sweet and I agree the music is too loud... a shame.
