i am reading here and the properway to do this is
1. always use a hepa vacuum to minimize the risk of lead particles in the air .
2.use a half face mask,not those paper masks no good .
3.strip ur radiator sometimes paint comes right off if not apply a paint stripper.
4.then wet scrape not DRY SCRAPE you dont do dry because again you do not want the particles in the air .
5.then when ur done you paint .

Hello fellow bstoners ,just wanna give you willy a situation that when on with me .
i myself been in the construction industry for about 10 yrs.
My friend calls me about 11p.m.
john i have a leak in my basement water is pooling in the basement.
it was raining that night so i thought maybe that was the problem.
Next day i go we started in the basement always looking for a source where the water was coming from.tryin to keep the holes to a mininum.putting couple holes in the walls we found water dripping along the wall.
cheking another floor above in the kitchen .
Bottom line the drip we found was about two stories from were we originally started .
In the bathroom of an apt on 3rd flr.
Now remind you the house was newly built.
When they(the contractors) did there work .
They sent the DRYWALL SCREW Right into the
Plumbing.Ain't that A REAL MOTHER______.
pardon.after tht we used some special putty that is used in situation like the one we were in with a pinhole in the plumbing.
At the end we fixed the leak everything Has been good since like 3 yrs now .

second of all my next comment is to the person who said not to trust lead abatement companies.well you must of been burned badly by bad people.and i will apologize on there
behalf but i am offended by your comment because being a lead abatement supervisor i have always been honest & fair.and always done the right thing.and these are some rules set by the e.p.a.
feel free to ask me any questions considering lead paint .
and also REMEMBER it is illegal to have anyone aside from a certified ,e.p.a. company to do this work.
ur are putting yourself in great dangers.by not doing so .
1.any building built pre 1960 is considered
to have lead.unless otherwise proven by testing.
2.methylene chloride is iilegal and is reported to promote cancer big time NO GOOD.
3.DRY SCRAPING is also illegal because of the dust.
4.the key is to always minimize the dust and keep it contained.

If you use Dragonetti nail them down w/a contract. We used them for landscaping 11 years ago and the price was 25% more than quoted. My husband had to literally scream at Mr. Dragonetti to reduce it, which he did, but still.

We just used urban Arborist to remove a 40 foot pine tree in our back garden. Had to chop up and bring through the house for removal. They were much cheaper than other quotes and the service was great. Arrived when they said, very curteous and hard working. A few marks on the wall but nothing that couldn't be cleaned up. I'd recomend them, a good experience.

asbestos abatement is not cheap. you have to do it right or you endanger yourselves and the workers doing the job.

$10k is not an unreasonable number. I had to remove asbestos from my basement, and it was around that same number.

After seeing the good reviews re. Prospect Tree, I decided to call. Hollis stopped by to give an estimate and made an appointment. On that day, he never showed up, never returned my phone calls with an explanation. How can anyone that flaky stay in business? A complete waste of time.

im a 31yo black man born & raised in Gowanus, i have to say it wasnt a very nice area to live but alot has changed. But if you're a white out of towner you might be not want to live there. There is a lot of drugs, prostitution & A WHOLE LOT OF GUNFIRE! But believe me when i tell you that the NYC has neighborhoods that are 10 times more dangerous.
