house cleaner recommendation?
Hi-- I want to hire someone to give my 2 BR Kensington apartment a good once-over. I'd rather hire a local company or person. It could become a monthly gig, but for now I just need my apt cleaned before a party. Anyone have someone they can recommend? Thanks!

I'll miss this place as it became my spot to grab a sandwich after work, before seeing a movie. It was so convenient to the theater, and the other evening options on that block for a quick bite are... less than healthy. I hope a similar type of place takes over the space.

I heartily disagree with ppw_girlz- the customer service at Blue Ribbon is consistently great. Once, when my partner and I had dinner there, she ordered a large amount of food, and realized that her eyes were bigger than her stomach and only ate 1/3 of her entree. After our waiter cleared our dishes, the manager must have noticed the amount of food on her plate and came to see if anything had been wrong with her meal. She explained that she had just not been that hungry. When we got the check- he had comped her meal! This one experience has made me a customer for life.
I live on East 7th, but I didn't get this letter. Then again I live in a big co-op. Brownstoner, without revealing addresses, can you clue us in to which blocks this person reviewed?

I'm not 100% sure on this, but I believe the issue is that ObGYN malpractice insurance is by far the most costly. This is because the doctor is liable for any developmental issues until the kid hits 18 years old. So, there are a lot more lawsuits in the ObGYN field than in other specialties. The premiums that obstetricians pay is also very high. This is one reason why many medical students do not go into the specialty.

To the person who asked about 599 east 7th.... I live in that bldg and love it. It a good, solidly built building, and the neighbors are by en large a freindly group with a lot of pride in the building. (An example of the construction: an apartment that shares a wall with me had a fire and in our apartment you'd never know it- no smoke fumes, no damage at all!) The building echos the neighborhood- a strong mix of black, white, east asian and middle eastern. There are young families, single people, and older couples. The location is good b/c we are only a 5 minute walk from Cortelyou, which has good groceries, coffee at VoxPop, Connecticut Muffin, the Farm, etc etc. The Q is about a 10 minute walk, the F about 7 minutes. I don't love the shopping options on Ditmas, but make due when I need to grab something quick.
I recommend buying in the building.

Awesome! Thanks for the recommendation, I will certainly check them out. I just gave the website a quick look-over, and I'm psyched to support such an organization!

I used to live in this complex. It's a decent building. The maintenance looks to have gone up significantly since I lived there (I moved out in 2004), which is probably a good sign, that they're taking care of things. The building is pretty no-frills- small lobbies, pretty basic. But the elevator sure came in handy. It's nice to see someone renovated one of the units so nicely. The location is alright- I prefer the part of K-ton I live in now, which is closer to Ditmas Park. But the walk from Ave C to the F train is under 10 minutes and I always felt very safe there.
