twenty foot tall fence?

Seeking rear property line fence ideas tall enough to block view of newly constructed 7 story apartment building. There is a serious rear yard flood light problem that needs to be blocked. Currently there is a 6' tall cinderblock wall in place, but looking for something that offers us even more privacy during the day.
I understand that legally one and two family homes in residential areas can build a fence no higher than 6' and that no permit is necessary.
Two ideas I'm considering. Setting two 20' poles in the ground at each corner of the lot with air craft cable run between them so that some type of vine can grow up and across eventually filling in the space or..

Planting a fast growing hedge that can reach same height. What about bamboo or some evergreen that does not take up much of a foot print? Any planting ideas?

In order to make the DOB's radar, the site has to have recent 311 complaints about hazardous conditions/unsafe fence/excessive debris/bad housekeeping AND have expired permits. 333 Carroll St. has neither complaints nor expired permits. The fence and shed are good until February 2010.

The Scribd feature is cool.

For comparison.

In Charleston, SC they just finished building (2005) the longest cable-stayed bridge in the western hemisphere at 4km in length. Eight lanes wide with pedestrian/bike lanes. Total cost $700 million. Not only came in under cost but also sooner than predicted. Swedish construction company Tidewater Skanska built it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arthur_Ravenel_Jr._Bridge

Don't we need some kind of panel of experts to discuss planning of the new bridge for a few years before we attempt to build this thing? Say at a cost of $700 million?

Don't ever relax. Vigilance sir. Know your enemy.
Recon will pay off. I like to sit in a chair, absolutely still and wait. After the rest of your family has gone to bed the mice will come out. Don't move, just watch, and take mental notes on everything they do, where they come and go from, what they eat, who they associate with... Camouflage yourself if necessary. I like to cover myself in a pile of dirty laundry with a pair of womens underwear over my head peeping through the leg holes.

The same situation exists on the Brooklyn side of the bridge for cars exiting on the right for the BQE. Long line of cars waiting, second shorter line in middle lane waiting to cut in front leaving only remaining lane on the left for traffic to pass.

I think you said it yourself. "The job did not have to be done..."

Rain shower heads are not to everyone's liking. They are more for a second bathroom providing an alternative experience (read luxury) and not a rental.

Providing upgrades like this should be done for economic reasons and you should not expect a thank you when it comes to a rental.

As for your new tenant wanting a reduction, there is nothing wrong with him asking. There is nothing wrong with you saying no either. Don't make it personal. Just say no.

When I worked for a management company we would see this kind of think frequently.
We had several buildings with cat people who instisted that their cats would only drink from a running faucet so they left their faucets running 24 hours a day. We calculated this cost the owner $200 per month in water and sewer charges, and that was cold water.

We had an elderly tenant who would run the water for her bath and then forget and change her mind and go shopping or visit friends for the weekend not knowing that she had left the water on.

Something similar to your situation a guy would leave his hot water blasting. We found out when the waste line failed flooding out the tenant below. I remember the enamel had eroded clean off his cast iron tub from doing this for months/years.

If you want to check for "leaks" your water meter has a small rotating dial that indicates even the smallest of water flowing. Check it in the middle of the night.

I don't know if it is the same program as the one you mention but awhile ago I submitted my application to a DoT/Parks program to repair tree damaged sidewalks and an inspector from Parks came out, took a look, and and gave me a score (I got a 86 out of 100). The higher the score the higher the priority. More than a year passed without any word when a contractor posted a permit on out gate for sidewalk repair. They came, ripped out the old damaged sidewalk, and replaced it with new. They did about 18' total. No charge. A few days later a guy from DoT came out and inspected... A few days later a trucks from Parks came by and threw down some mulch on top.
I understood that this program had run out of funds. There was a similar program for free iron tree pit guards but I missed that deadline.

Parts of the south slope looked exactly like this particular block of St. Marks just a decade ago. I'm thinking of 15th Street between 7th and 8th Avenues which was made up of single story garages, light manufacturing, auto repair shops, a few 5 story walk ups. Not very pretty. There are now numerous condo/rental buildings standing in their place.
I don't doubt that if this new development is successful, the rest of the block's nonresidential buildings will fall like dominoes.
The big question mark for St. Marks between Washington and Underwood is the HUGE open parking lot. When the owners of that land decide to cash out everything will change.

5 minute walk to Tom's Diner, if that makes a difference.

You could have a bad low water cut off/water feeder or the boiler is surging (usually due to dirty water, sometimes due to incorrect piping) and pushing the water out as it runs and the pressure rises. If that were the case, the boiler would shut off and the water would return slowly.

Pic would help.

Posted by: Master Plvmber at November 7, 2009 6:34 AM in response to Heating system not auto filling

if your low water cutoff/ automatic water feed is a float type control, the float is probably stuck in the full position...flush out the water 3-4 times in rapid succession while rapping the side of the float sharply with the wooden handle of a hammer..that should free up the float...
it may also be that the switch has fused and needs to be replaced... if you have a probe typelwco, it needs to be cleaned or replaced
the bigger question is where is the water going?...is it leaking out of the return lines or pouring out of the main vents..you should have your system checked out by a heating pro, since it is ill advised to endlessly add water to a steam boiler..you are treating the symptoms, not addressing the underlying problem
