closing a staircase?
wondering if anyone has experience closing a brownstone stair at the parlour level to create a downstairs duplex with upper rentals? looking for ideas for the construction itself, and also a ballpark price to expect... thanks!

Timber, I would love to be able to take you up on your offer and stop by the see your house briefly. I'm not in town this weekend, but could come over on Monday or Thursday night or sometime next weekend.
Ralph Gardens, since you had this done, can you give me a rough idea of cost? We need to build the partition, and also open a doorway into the staircase behind it through the parlor. Or Rick, can you tell me what you might charge (We aren't doing this ourselves so we do need a contractor).
