Cement Sidewalk

Some (but not all) of the squares of our cement sidewalk have cracked and need to be repaired/replaced. Any recommendations? Also, is there any reason I can't replace just the cracked squares, rather than the entire sidewalk? Thanks.

Donation

I have a lightly used HP color printer that I'm happy to donate to a school if anyone knows who might want it.

Also, I have a double bed/sleep sofa and desk that I'm having a hard time getting picked up by Salvation Army or Goodwill. Suggestions welcome.

Closet Design

Anyone have a recommendation for a local closet organizer? I got an estimate from California Closets and know that they are overpriced. Thanks.

Central Station Monitoring

My alarm company is about to raise its rates and I am shopping for an alternative who services Ditmas Park. I have an alarm system already --can I choose any company? Suggestions of reliable companies?

Repaving Cement Sidewalk

I need to re-cement a few blocks of the sidewalk in front of my West Midwood house. Any recommendations? Also, is it realistic to think I can redo only the portions that are cracked/buckling and not the whole thing? What should this cost per square foot? Thanks!

Renovate Fireplace

I have a fireplace that is already hooked up to a gas line in my 1906 Ditmas Park house. There is a sheet of copper over the front and the gas runs in small jets over the copper. I would like to replace it with a more conventional grate that runs on gas and has false logs or coals. Any suggestions about where/who to do this?

Need Appraiser

I am deeding a % of my house to my partner and need the house appraised. Can anyone recommend a reliable appraiser?

Thanks.

Appraiser

I bought my house 15 years ago and am now gifting a % to my partner and need the value of the house assessed in order to draft a new deed. Does anyone have someone reputable to suggest?

Kitchen Cabinets

Am I the only person who is astounded by the cost of kitchen cabinets? They are more than the appliances that I am buying and not custom made.

Any suggestions?

Oil vs Gas

I have a 100 year old oil boiler and am thinking of switching to gas but hearing conflicting views. Gas is cleaner and cheaper, but oil is more efficient. The cost is about $6000 to convert.

Any recommendations?

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. There is a storm drain from the front of my house that opens into that hole and I needed a plumber with a snake to get a blockage cleared. Then everything cleared. Good Luck!

I currently use Ambush Alarm and they're charging me about $130 for 6 months of service. But they say rates are going up 12-15%. I'll have to check on the make and model (though they did not install the system, so I figured I can choose someone else to monitor.)

I can recommend Hollis@prospect tree.com. He did a great job on the very old yew tree in my back yard.

I use A&P Oil. They also have a nominal co-op fee and their service has been excellent.

Get back to me with the make and model and I'll give you the default installer code to try and whether or not it can be bypassed if it has been changed. When you do end up changing companies do not let the technician lock you out, this may require a $20 handshake.

Update from OP

I called Econo-sewer (718-338-8484) based on recommendations from the forum. They put a camera through the sewer and I had a break which was allowing water to seep back through the walls into the basement. They recommended Liberty Water & Sewer for the fix (718-567-2713).

Very happy with the work of both companies - highly recommend them.

it is also illegal to lock out a system that you buy outrite but as posted most alarm guys do this to make you change your panel so it locks you in so you wont want to spend money to change the system and stay with them.
