someone to install a gas cooktop

i hate my jenn-air cooktop (REALLY hate it) and want to replace it with a viking we like. because it has to fit into the existing cutout - so the dimension are more complicated - i want someone to come and measure to ensure that the new cooktop will fit without alterations BEFORE we buy it. the only place that will do this is Gringers - and they are a big pain to work with.

So, my question is: anyone got any ideas/references about who would come measure and then install my cooktop. it is a tiny job and most contractors are just not interested.

thanks!!!!

new bike lanes on berkeley and lincoln

anyone know what the double parking implications are now that we have bike lanes on berkeley and lincoln? i know you are not supposed to block the bike lines when you double park, but it seems to me that our streets aren't wide enough to allow for bike lanes, double parking, and regular traffic. Thoughts?

Author's Comments

well - clearly people have a lot to say about bike lanes - but no one commented one the double parking issue.

Anyone without an axe to grind care to comment?????

joe from all boiler is the go-to guy. i had 2 plumbers fail to fix my boiler and then joe came to the rescue. don't know what the cost for a replacement would be but joe was on-time, reasonably-priced and good.

i have the same issue with my neighbor - not day or night but teenage band practice, amplifiers and all, several times a week. my whole house vibrates.

i keep hoping that the owners will have an epiphany and realize that they could do something proactive - maybe the neoprene mats or something or some other kind of insulation (they play in the sub-basement). my libertarianism and our previous history prevents me from bringing it up with them.

in attached houses you would think people would realize that they are connected to their neighbors and be a little considerate. sadly, i think my optimism is misplaced.

i despise my 3-yr old jennair cooktop for many, many reasons. the burners are totally unreliable. of the five burners only 2 are reliable.
the design of the grates is awful and if a pan is not placed perfectly, it slides off very easily. and, every time i open the drawer underneath the cooktop, the flames go off and it needs to restart.

i can't speak to your alternative, but do not buy a jennair

I'm not happy with our Jenn Air range/oven either. Same thing, pots slide around too easily on the grates and if you have one eye on, it heats up the connecting grates too much, and if the oven is on it WAY heats up the back grates on the range. I've never had that ever, for the oven to let heat escape up onto the range. Huge design flaw.

In general about designs of all ranges, I'm so annoyed with that continuous-grate design on seemingly every range on the market in every brand, and I want to buy a vintage gas stove just so I don't have to have that!

The piece that's missing here is that you can't communicate with them. Who knows, if they knew they were bothering you they might listen with headphones or something. Try placing a notice in the next building, on their door, that you are a neighbor and there's a noise problem. Also, I agree with the comment above to contact the landlord or coop, that might help.

Hello Op here,

Denton did you mean $3-6K? I have never heard anyone talk about this costing so high on the previous posts regarding boilers.

Thanks

Huh, I opted for my Bosch range precisely FOR the continuous grates, and I love it. Anyway, I was told that in general GE appliances have gone downhill and are very unreliable.

if you want to research consumer opinions of appliances, please go to www.gardenweb.com.

You will get the real story from the appliance forum section.

Normally I like GE, but they have put their consumer appliance division on the market, so future spport could be iffy

return the favor and blast music against their wall tonight at 4:00am. repeat every night for a week, hopefully they will get the picture. they may not realize how loud they are or how the sound is traveling.

As a former source of this kind of noise, I can tell you this guy probably has no idea how much of a disturbance he is causing. As several other posters have also pointed out, if you can figure out a way to talk to him, you should be able to solve the problem. once I found out what a problem my amp was for my neighbors, I was happy to use headphones to practice late at night. Maybe you want to not only track this guy down, but give him some nice headphones as a housewarming gift. :-)

3:13 is right, people should be using headphones to practice guitar. People just have no sense at all.

Call 311 and the DOB, tell them the noise is well above ambient level and it plays late at night. (Both illegal -- we DO have a noise code in NYC). They will send somebody to measure it and tell the dude to shut up.

Hose off the blood? What a waste. Very soon you're going to need that blood to pay for the gas to stick in the tank of your fat-assed, rolling road block.
