What is a "pet ampitheater"? Is that a place where dogs and cats can watch concerts?

When we looked here two and a half years ago there were also some rent-stabilized renters still in the building. Seemed sort of weird to drop a million dollars on an apartment and have your next door neighbor living in the same spot for a small fraction of the price.

I was there yesterday and the blood orange fat-free sorbet was terrific. The vanilla ice cream was not that good, too eggy and kind of gluey texture. Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory vanilla is better.

During the big LA earthquake in the early/mid-1990s a lot of those buildings with the ground floor parking just collapsed on top of the cars.

I was there this morning and it is spectacular. They are just at that point where not a petal has yet dropped onto the ground.

What a wonderful post! This is what makes New York City (and America) great!

Great, by that logic, Christopher, all of us individual New Yorkers ought to renounce our American and New York citizenship and become residents of offshore tax havens, because if we still lived here, we would still be buying gas in New York City and paying sales tax on our restaurant meals and tolls when we drive over bridges. The IRS and the New York State tax department would laugh at (or prosecute) an ordinary New Yorker who tried that, but somehow these Hollywood types get away with it. Drives me nuts.

Okay, then, why is the rental company based in PA ?? Because it doesn't want to pay taxes in NY, or the higher NY insurance rates that those of use who don't get special tax breaks do pay.

It's a movie filming there I think, "Sorcerer's Apprentice" or something like that, talking advantage of the special tax breaks for movie production that the mayor and the governor have lavished on the folk who bring trucks from Pennsylvania and California and park them on our streets so that the people who live here and don't get special tax breaks can't park their cars or drive where they want to. Infuriating.

They have started selling cookies at Brooklyn Ice Cream factory so you can make your own sandwich there if you want. Also, you can bring in the chocolate chip cookies from Almondine and make your own sandwich with those.

If it is the same ice cream they are putting in the sandwiches and/or selling across the street at Almondine (which I think has some ties to the Torres empire though I could be wrong) it doesn't hold a candle to the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory ice cream, which is way better. There is already also a Ciao Bella in the Rice outlet in Dumbo. I can see why Torres would want to try to get some of the customers waiting on line at the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory but he's going to have to make better ice cream to get this one.

How much costs the couch in the picture?

It's only "grim" if you are a seller. If you are a renter looking to buy it's "great."

Uh, Johnny, the flag in the picture is the stars and stripes. The stars and bars, the Confederate battle flag, is not a flag likely to be flown by many Obama supporters. Funny coming from someone mocking the lack of intelligence from Republicans.

Well they are kind of New York-centric names given the Dakota apartment building on Central Park West in Manhattan and the Montana on Broadway between 87th and 88th again in Manhattan. Maybe they are trying to attract buyers from the Upper West Side.

By what logic should this guy be forced to use his own money on his own property to build apartments for people who can't afford them on their own?

also it isn't true that there is not a lot of light. It's south-facing. It's practically sun-drenched.

I used to live in this building. The people, including the live-in super, are really nice, and the building is well kept. The price is high given the market conditions, previous sales in the building, and the condition of this apartment. At 1.1 or 1.2 million, maybe 1.3, it's a good deal.
