Range Inside Fireplace

This is a response to the shallow stove post: I am currently having the work in this photo done by Nick at Transcend (the gas line will be recessed through the side of the FP breast). The work is now much farther along and it looks great - I'll post another photo as soon as I can get my camera working again. 3 cheers for Nick!

Please let us know if you have any luck. We managed (I don't remember how) to get one of them over to look at our facade. Very nice, very knowledgeable. Promised to get back to us...never did, never answered messages. But you are right; they do very nice work. We were excited at the prospect of using them. So it goes...

Nick and his crew are currently renovating my parlor floor kitchen and bath and are doing a terrific job. Nick could not be more patient and understanding in helping me to execute my design ideas, since my budget did not allow for an architect. He has been great at working through some of my design glitches and has even thrown in some fabulous ideas of his own. His crew is punctual, polite and hardworking and leave the worksite neat and orderly at the end of each day. If you want to discuss further, or want to come by and have a look at the work in progress, email me @ mhmela@aol.com.

Good Luck!

Call Nick from Transcend, he's a GC who specializes in masonry and concrete. When I needed to have a fireplace breast gutted out and reinforced, so that a cooking range could be housed within, I got crazy quotes from others who considered the job equal to opening and relining the entire fireplace line. Nick came in and got the job done in 2 days at a fraction of what others quoted. He even did some rear wall patch work for free.

My bad, it is a Directoire table and not Gueridon. Rdinteriors.com also has one thats even less$.

This is a Louis XVI Gueridon table, antiques are a fortune upwards of 10K. Allcoffeetables.com has a pretty good repro for $495.
Good luck.

I bleached the old parquet floors in my home using a 2 part bleach and have not noticed any damage to the wood. If you have never used this stuff make sure everything that can be possibly dripped on is protected and wear 2 layers of chemical proof gloves.

Good luck.

I had all the bumpy walls in my house skim coated except the living room because I thought the walls looked fine and to save $ - after the guys were done all of the beautiful skim coated walls made the living room walls look awful in comparison. I wound up ponying up the dough and redoing the living room but it was well worth it.
I used these 2 really nice guys who do this work for a construction co. during the week and do residential side jobs after 4:00 and on the weekends. Their price was very reasonable and they were eager to please. Email me if you want their contact info: mhmela@aol.com

Call Andre @ A&A - When he relined my fp he had to demolish most of the column to do it, so I can't see why he couldn't replace the whole thing using temporary supports.
I like your FP (go figure) so if you are getting rid of those stones and hearth let me know and I'll take them off your hands. A&A's # is listed in the homepage ads.
Good luck!

This can work well but it is an extremely tricky operation to put in the new supports while keeping the chimney stable.
You need an experienced contractor who understands needling masonry, cuz otherwise you may end up with the entire chimney in a pile in your kitchen.

I guess I'm lucky that I have a similar set-up original to my house, where the original coal-burning range was set into a hearth that now accommodates my gas range.

Posted by: Bob Marvin at August 18, 2009 7:51 PM in response to Range Inside Fireplace

You can sometimes match it w/ several different styles from Dyke's.

Posted by: Arkady at September 24, 2009 3:43 PM in response to Help wood moulding!!!!!

You won't be able to get an exact match of any original molding with anything found at Dykes or otherwise, but you can have a carpenter mill some for you.

Dykes is new lumber. Nice molding....better than that Home Depot crap.
